Hmm...Probably at its cheapest but still it's a 18 month old model....I suppose it's the "Sony" name tag

No sorry, just a photo I swiped from amazon, shall change it.
is this better than the xz premium?

ok, no problem, sometimes sony phones include their rather good headphones ...

Not better no! The xz premium was the teu flagship of its time, this has flagship type specs, just in a smaller, much smaller package.

Try typing this into Google search "xz1 vs xz premium"
@Mrswitch You need to have a promo video for yourself, like Mr Soft back in the day...

Is there a better camera phone available for less than £200?
This does seem a very good price for what was a £600 flagship device a little over 12 months ago.
Why is this showing as only being reduced from £210? Amazon were selling at £289 yesterday???

The camera is very mediocre on this
Isn't this the same camera they had in the xz premium too?

Thanks for the explanation. I did end up searching google which confirmed your view that it is a slightly weaker but smaller version of the premium. Not voting either way.

For £200? No.

If you want a good camera, you will have to pay up.

I don't whether it's better than this phone but I have always been very impressed by my Nokia 8 camera (which is around £200 nowadays) . I also had the Z5 compact (2 generations older than the XZ1) and was happy with that camera too. I think that if you are an average person you'll be more than impressed by the snappers on a £200 device. Here is the last picture I took on my phone.

Link to picture cause otherwise HUKD reuploads in low quality.

This has the very capable Snapdragon 835 CPU and it's no slouch, I have one and it easily lasts 2 days

No

Yes
I have this phone since April 2018, its alway performed well, great metal build quality, HDR screen, excellent camera, front facing speakers, waterproof, 64 GB Storage, I paid £400 then worth every penny, its also upgraded to pie at this point what else you want there nothing that can touch it at this price, it also has snapdragon 835 that last top chipset, most phones at this price will have Mediatek or snapdragon 400 series
This or the Nokia 7 plus 4gb RAM, for the same price
vraxxos18/02/2019 21:56

Compared to what? All reviews say it is just behind an s8, so whilst not best in class, it certainly couldn't be described as mediocre

Very good question! Use gsmarena.com to compare between the two and you can work out which fits your particular criteria

I'd have the 7 plus personally as I like bigger phones, I also think the sd835 and 660 will perform just abou the same in real world situations.

Though the camera will be better on the Sony.

Depends on your priorities.
reasons to go for Nokia:
- more modern design and bigger screen
- amazing battery life
- probably longer support with Android One
reasons to go with Sony:
- more powerful CPU.The real life use difference in performance is not as evident as the benchmarks would suggest. If you play demanding games , this one has a big advantage.
- IP68 guarantees protection in water up to 1.5m deep for half an hour
- one-hand operation thanks to handier size
- none of the cameras are top-flagship level but it's better on Sony (Nokia's camera is also very solid, especially with gcam installed on it)

I went for Nokia a couple of months ago(because of battery life) when faced with an identical choice. I'm sure that I would also be happy with Sony, had I chosen it.

You can't compare 835 with 660

(Just for reference, 820/1 & 710 pretty much on a par performance-wise)

In real world use, an average smartphone user wouldn't notice the difference. My wife for example went from the Kirin 970 to the sd660 and doesn't notice any difference.

I on the other hand would, as I'm sure you would too as I'm on my phone all the time and notice if even the camera app loads too slow one time.

I'd say, if not flagged by mods, that mid-rangers like excellent Nokia 7 Plus are more suitable for the female element (especially more compact handsets)

whereas we the male, society-leading element are more concerned with raw power and exercising it with all our strength...

(Sorry guys, stepped out this morning on wrong side of bed)
