First post so go easy.

I've been searching for a smaller android phone and the cheapest for this phone on contract is around £22 per month with 4gb data. Makes sense to buy this deal and go Sim only.

I have this phone. Always loved the compact series.

- great performance (has SD 835)
- good battery life
- screen is fine and works well in direct sunlight
- waterproof and dust proof!
- camera is really good
- memory card slot and headphone jack
- LDAC works brilliant with my Sony BT headphones
- USB C and NFC
- Dual front facing speakers

Love the phone. This price is a bargain. Phone will also be getting android 9 Pie.

Good price for this, thanks for posting @Simon_JTyD
Bargain
Great deal!
A reviewer on there says 'Poor battery life' lol
This is a great price for a good phone with good performance and battery life. It is not high res but that isn't required at this screen.size
Very tempted. Should get 9.0 update too.
"Memory card supported No" Is this correct??
I was expecting these to drop further in price, but I guess there is not much competition in the 'small phones department', so price still up. However, very good specifications for the price. My wife needs a new phone and only likes small ones, so not much choice out there (Iphones ruled out, as this is what she has and wants an android).
Voted hot, as this is the best price so far, never seen these under £200. I was hoping to get it cheaper for X-mas but this may be a gamble, so ordered now.

Wrong, otherwise deal breaker for me: Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact uses Micro SD memory cards, up to 256GB.
So tempted, love my x compact. But the screen has always been a let dien compared to other phones. How much better is this screen than the x compact?
The Essential Phone is 1cm taller and half a centimetre wider if you're looking for a smaller phone that doesn't compromise. Picked mine up recently from Amazon.com for £220 delivered.
Yep, 5 minutes too slow, instead of posting comments here, I should have gone for it, now not available.

Same here, I reckon other retailers will drop to this price soon though

Don't know about that, if this was still available, they would have probably dropped the price, now they don't have any reasons to do it. But who knows!!!
Would have got one of these by now if it weren't for the corners. They're soo pointed. Had a look at one in a shop and they actually feel even sharper than they look in pictures.
Out of stock but that was a ridiculous price. I use one of these daily and it's undoubtedly one of the best Android phones I've ever had, it is quite angular but I prefer that to the same curved glass, rounded corner rectangles every single manufacturer makes now - with a case on you barely even notice.

How is it a letdown? It has one of the best LCDs ever fitted to a phone - extremely high contrast for an LCD and colours are accurate. If there was anything I was going to pick holes in about the phone, it's not the display.

Keep trying. I went for it but got side tracked at work. By the time I got back to it it was oos. Just tried again and it's back available again.

We still talking x compact here? When I look at a photo on mine (screen) compared to almost any other phone of its generation there's been a huge difference.
Who expired this? Still in stock online and loads in stores.

Yes, both phones have very good LCDs. Do you mean it just doesn’t look as good arbitrarily to you? I mean you’re entitled to your opinion but I never felt the display was an issue - I had more concern over the slower SoC and lack of waterproofing.

They must’ve come back into stock then as definitely out a little while ago. OP can unexpire.

This is what I did not like as well. Also the bezels and the plastic feeling. But my wife wants a small phone and this one has very good specifications.
I've ordered, I nearly picked up the full size xz1 from Argos but did not like the look of it. I prefer the size of the compact to other phones, good price, cheers op
Finally ordered and confirmed. Had it in my basket before but by the time I've checked for discounts and codes, was out of stock. Now in stock and ordered, best price so far for this phone, voted hot already.

Well other than the compromises of not being step waterproof, despite that has no micro SD, the comprise of no headphone jack, no fast charge, no UK warranty and likely nowhere here that can repair it.
Carphone warehouse have this in store as well for the same price if anyone's interested.

Better screen, both in resolution & size, 128GB of internal storage, etc etc. I know which one I'd rather buy but each to his own I suppose. And oh, it supports 27W chargers via USB-C PD, just not the fast charge 3.0 protocol.

Both are far too compromised for my liking.

Xz2 compact at this price in six months would be very interesting though

And xz2 'compact' isn't compromising on the 3.5 mm jack? And it is not the traditional compact either since sony decided to increase the screen size cuz they think they can increase the screen to body ratio and keep calling it 'compact'.

Because it's still compact. Seems pretty logical. They don't call it the Sony tiny screen

Sony's idea of a compact is going by the chassis, whereas the consumers want a phone which is easily navigable via single hand. Entirely depends in which camp you are. I personally do not toe the line the manufacturers like to yap.

And you seem to be fine with the omitted 3.5 mm jack while talking about 'compromises'?

I don't know that you can claim to know what consumers want. Think there's likely as many that want a bigger screen in the compact frame as want a tiny screen in larger frame.

The jack is a compromise I could live with in xz2 compact for the benefits over the xz1 compact. Was just pointing out them saying the essential phone doesn't compromise is a crock...
Pondlife yes the xz2 compact is better but the cheapest I have seen the xz2 c is £399 at so.com so maybe if you wait 6 months or a year you will get the xz2 C for £300

Cuz I have seen more people sticking with the Z3 compact (2014) than be opting for the so called latest compact. Guess I am interacting more with the purists. To be able to hold the phone without the need to shift grip while accessing the phone's corners is a top priority, and it becomes even more pronounced while in a crowded place. The only thing going for the xz2xc is the better camera, which sony has somehow finally (surprisingly and partially) tried to improve upon.

I have a z3 compact at the moment, oh have I wasted my money on this, I guess I could still send it back If it'd awkward to hold?
