Can be had for £199 if you cancel the 1 month vodaphone contract. There could be cashback but im not to familiar with how that works.
Specs and features: snapdragon 835 with 4gb ram. Has a super slow motion 19mp camera which can do 960fps. Ip68 waterproof and dust resistant and has stereo speakers.
What do you guys think compared to the Nokia 8 128gb model for £254.

May I ask why this is being voted cold? Looks like an insane deal if you're looking for a small waterproof phone.
It seems very good deal, its probably been voted cold because the hassle off taking out a contract and canceling, the phone itself is the best compact android out there. People are not voting the phone cold it's the contract and hassle. I give you my vote

Is it really much hassle? Surely it's just filling in a few details to sign up and a quick phone call to cancel..
Can the black variant be had for the same pricing?

Do pardon me, but I also need help/clarification on procuring it for the price of £214.50/£199. Would def prefer the black coloured handset.
a) How does one go about getting this deal? Ordering it via CW's contract and get it for 214.50?
b) What will be the exact procedure to procure it for £199? Cancellation of contract will entail any fee/penalty?

As compared with the Nokia 8, I think the Nokia is a slightly better deal ONLY for those who do not prefer regular/small screen handset. The Nokia 8 def will be having a better camera, as historically Sony has managed to mess up its sensor/image capturing algo quite consistently. As far as the reviews go, Nokia has done quite well in that dept.

I also believe Nokia 8 is a better phone. This is mostly for people who want smaller phones, I am actually considering the Sony for my wife. If I have to choose one for me, I will go for Nokia, however my understanding is that this Sony model is really good.
anyone recommend a screen protector for these? seems its a minefield with the curved edge

..however my understanding is that this Sony model is really good.

Indeed. It is a very good phone and surely will serve people who prefer that form factor very well. It is still very capable as the SoC was flagship and is just an yr old. Sony has guaranteed 2 updates to it. But those who intend to root it will face issues as the DRM keys will get lost. Sony supports AOSP, but is not keen on DRM keys being restored. Sony is weird like that. The camera is capable, but is not class leading for night time photography. Afaik, Gcam port is not there for this phone either.. so losing DRM keys will be supremely annoying.

Do check my other comment, I have few queries and would be grand if somebody could reply

Finding accessories for this one has been a chore. Spigen somehow skipped this, while releasing a cracker of a case for its sibling. Screen protectors have been not from very known/reputed brands as per my research. Only could see some cheap chinese stuff for it.

seems there is a ringke equivalent for the case but think that would make the screen protector situation even worse as will likely touch the edges
then there are some that are a little smaller so they lie on the flat of the screen but how much smaller etc?
meh!
there is the official flip case which i guess could take place of both but dont really like those

Yeah, ringke is there, but looked glossy. The whole 'coloured accents along the border' was'nt too convincing for me, but its a well done product overall. Others are either super cheap and/or leave the top and the bottom edge exposed. Flip cases never were my favs either. Spigen/Cruzerlite/Casemate/Tudia.. they all ditched the xz1 compact. Very annoying.

btw, can you shed some light on the queries I mentioned in my first post here?

no months payments = cancel within 14 days cooling off
never done though
PLUS!!!!
sony will also send you an EXCLUSIVE link to their webstore... some of the stuff actually costs MORE

Um, when you say Black is same price for others.. you meant that black is not at discounted price? Confusion arising cuz I changed the phone colour and the rate was 259 iinm.

Secondly, will need more clarity on the 30 days Vs 14 days cancellation. Sorry :embarrassed:
Very new to this uk based offers and have to work my way up from scratch. My friend will be moving to the uk soon, and I have been given the task to get all these offers skimmed to take a well informed decision. Being a new member, I cannot send private msgs yet. Hoping to get that privilege soon. :-)

Thanks a ton for the dumbed down procedure mentioned in the first few lines.
Can you further clarify:
1) If my friend is to place the order for this, he grabs it for for 199 price, with 1 month's worth of contract based charge to follow later (£15. 50). If he orders, and decides to cancel the month's contract, how ll he go abt it?
2) You reckon there ll be a better deal around thanksgiving?

Thanks in advance!

1 - cant really clarify further as haven't done it - but i think they go via vodaphone without any mention of carphone warehouse
best to check older threads
2 - no idea

I thank you for kickstarting my endeavor in some direction at the least. Will dig up more, while hoping that the deal stays put for enough duration!
This whole cancellation of the SIM does not effect your credit rating, right?

2) No 'exit fee' either?

3) The deal mentions 1 month's contract. If the buyer stops using the SIM after one month, or basically pays one month's bill and never uses the SIM.. will it have any adverse effect on the customer's profile anywhere (again asking for credit score's sake)?

how can this be cold when its a tenner cheaper than the last time it was posted and that went hot?
Which deal is this? Can only see 24 month contract lengths available

EDIT: assume the sim free deal £15.50 per month / £199.00 upfront

Ordered btw - thanks alex_jamez. Any idea on the most painless way to cancel the 30 day rolling contract? Is there an online form? Tried googling it and best I could find was vodafone.co.uk/cs/…pdf

Just Google the Vodafone customer service number and follow the prompts to get to the relevant team. I got the phone with a one month O2 sim and phoned them up and said I wanted to cancel it because I wasn't going to use it as much as I thought I was. They cancelled it, no problems at all. Although I did have to pay for that one month but I got the phone for £210 so very happy all in all.

I've just ordered one of these through with a voda sim. Quick question, will this phone be unlocked? I still have an unlimited data contract with EE and I'm planning on sticking that sim into this phone as the old Z5 is on the way out.

Cheers

They've told me they can't cancel within the first 30 days of taking out the contract so you must've been very lucky

If it's a one month only contract, when are you allowed to cancel it then?! That sounds like nonsense to me. Thought you had a 14 day cooling off period in any case. I phoned after about 7 days of getting the phone and O2 sim. Had no problems at all cancelling it. I did have to pay the £16 for that month, but the phone was only £209, so still a great deal. The phone is great. Very happy.
