Or maybe Android fanboy who sees the Nexus 5 as a better phone to buy for the same money.

That is a refurb though.

I'm still using a Nexus 4 which has probably been the best phone I ever owned although KitKat has introduced a few niggles that have made me love it a little less. Thinking of upgrading but wondering how this phone stacks up to the Nexus 5. Any thoughts?

If you are happy with a Nexus device stick with it. The best thing about the Xperia Z range is the additional durability offered by being waterproof and dustproof, if you fancy the sound of that instead then go for the Sony.

I've got this phone and it has it's ups and downs, one thing that really ticks me off is the black dots that have developed on the back camera lens, currently in touch with Sony to get a repair under warranty but they're not the best (_;) Apart from that slight defect it is otherwise a fantastic bit of kit; beautiful design, very light/quick and a decent screen to boot. If you get this be sure to apply the screen protectors straight away because Sony pre-apply a SHATTER-resistant film that isn't SCRATCH resistant despite it being gorilla glass underneath, so little scratches and scuffs are picked up very easily.

Edit: oh and I have drunkenly spilled drinks on this device in the past and it didn't affect it at all which is always a nice fail-safe to have

I use Nexus Experience (CAF kernel version) ROM 5.7 and I use Lagfix (fstrim) if there's ever any slowdown. Brilliant ROM, so good that there's no need for me to upgrade. I will wait until the next major version of Android to appear before I upgrade my Nexus 4.

I wouldn't bother to buy this phone now that you already have the N4, I'd wait for something a lot better.

I've got this phone and I really wouldn't recommend it. While it is a good phone some of them suffer from an issue with the back glass coming unglued which stops the phone being water proof and also risks it getting caught and damaged.

The XDA thread about is currently up to 62 pages.

I had the black dot problem with my phone... I informed sony via a web chat and they told me to send it back. I received it back a week later and it was fixed.

However now another problem has arisen The glass seems to have cracked by itself, once again my phone is going off to Sony.

Apart from those 2 issues I have been happy with the phone :P

I received this phone yesterday from O2 and I can assure you its no refurb. It was a customer return to o2 within 7 days. It still has the plastic wrapping on it and it is faultless. There are no marks it is a brand new phone still.

I see a customer return as a new phone that was returned within 7 days. What a bargain for £240 because today the price went up to £360.

It has a 20.7 mega pixel camera it is a fab phone.

Wow really? Hadn't heard of the cracking screens hopefully mine holds out for the rest of my contract at least

Where is the G2 at £270, non import?

This is a god awful phone. I have had loads of smartphones and this by far was the biggest ripoff ever. I am on my 4th now and they are all have had crap stamina, its a nice phone to look at on the desk next to you, thats as far as it goes.

I bought this handset sim free when it first came out... I just do not know how they get away with charging such extortionate prices for so little hardware, I can buy a decent desktop for the price they charge (and not just sony either).

I just cracked mine the other day (second one now that I have cracked), the crack is barely visible.. the phone is now useless because the touch doesnt work anymore. Threw it in the bin, bough a desire 300 for £100 and no, it's not got the same processing power but it's amazing how I can use it ALL day without needing a charger by my side.

So some balance to this thread I feel. Had this phone for year now with no issues. It works great as a phone (I know novel I use it to make calls) It's fine as a game centre, mp3 player, pod cast thingy, camera is OK not too bad. Battery seems average for a smart phone but I keep data turned of in the day and only on when I need it.

All in all I think its OK

Thats very interesting, what was it that made you decide to swap it for the HTC One and what have you found the HTC One to excel in when comparing it to the Xperia Z?

I agree with the battery life I get maybe 8 hours-10 hours on a full charge but before this I had a Galaxy SIII and that was pretty much the same so I'm never without my portable charger which an absolute godsend.

Taking video for a start, sony always sounded tinny and distorted at concerts, calls wouldn't always connect would get a loud beep, Bluetooth in car would disconnect after around 2 mins of a call, sony Walkman music was poor, battery life rubbish., apps would hang. I've had none of these issues with HTC, call quality and music fab, battery life far superior and excellent video.

always good to see a sony phone

I got this phone about 5 months ago (had an iPhone before). It works fine, the camera is pretty good too. Bought a cover for it and no cracks so far.

I love sony products but they can't make phones properly

why anyone would even think of paying this much for what amounts to poor viewing angles, poor battery life, flaps, outdated specs, is beyond me.

if you must have water resistance just get a G2 for 30 quid more or nexus 5 for 240 and a waterproof case for heavens sake.....

8-10 hours?? You must just be looking at it then? All of the Z's I have had are appalling and If I get stuck into using it, by mid afternoon it's done. Literally you can watch the battery percentage drop 1% every few minutes if you use it.

I've hammered this desire 300 and yeah, it needs a charge when I go to bed but it cost £100 and works all day.
