Just a shame its old technology

Old tech?!? It has the same specs as the Nexus 7 (2013) in a 5" screen, but with a better cam and water/dust proof.

Only thing that lets the phone down is the screen, it's not IPS so colours are not as vibrant and viewing angles are a bit rubbish.

What's wrong with that? It's not all about numbers you know, it's how well they are utilised. It's like saying:
- Is quad-core better than dual-core - not always, single thread speed is more optimised on dual-core (iPhone as a good example)
- Is a 13 mp cam better than a 5 - not always, pixel count isn't everything, it's the aperture and quality of them (HTC One as an example)

For the price, the phone is good value. As an alternative, the N5 is also a good option.

Very nice phone. Upgrading my s2 and been looking at this, the z1 and n5. I think because of the durability and overall sleek look and higher build it'll be the z1.
Shame the user is suspended, if like to know what he uses his phone for. My s2 can do all I need and if consider myself a power user.
Heat added, good price for a new z.

iPhone 5 far better. Xperia Z is plagued with numerous faults. Their software is very shoddy.

£240 for phone and £10 for a good tariff. If you can get this any cheaper over 24 months please link? Slightly cheaper paying upfront on Amazon for the phone and then paying Giffgaff £7.50 a month for similar tariff (or as poster says just cancel contract part of phone and go with Giffgaff who are o2 anyway) but not everyone got £240 in their back pocket

I think this kind off deals should be removed / corrected from website or should reflect total cost of 24month contract agreement .

If you cancel you only pay off the phone plan, not the airtime one.

A friend of mine has this phone and the screen suddenly cracked without any pressure or damage to it. From a little research it seems like many users had this problem where the screen would crack without reason. He contacted manufactures and was quoted over £200 to have it fixed although they were aware and accepted this was a common handset fault.

I bought this phone when it came out , great phone no trouble even after letting it fall countless times. Not even a scratch. I also have a samsung S4 and this phone is faster in processing and can have many pages opened at the same time. I only wish I could buy it for the price the OP stated.

poor viewing angles. poor battery. flaps. Antarctic up here.

My son also had his crack, rendered it unusable. Google it and it's a well known issue as they overheat. Wouldn't touch Sony phones with a barge pole!.

Do you even know what an O2 Refresh contract is? Surely it would be logical to find out before posting comments like this.

This contract is split in two, the phone plan, and the airtime plan.

When you cancel the contract, you only have to pay the phone plan in full.

Think of the airtime plan as a 1 month rolling contract, alongside your 24 month phone plan.

Have a look at the O2 FAQ - 'Once you've signed up' section.

Can I settle my credit agreement early?
Yes. You can settle your credit agreement partially or in full at any time by giving us notice and making a payment on your Phone Plan. If you wish to settle early you should contact us on 202 free from your mobile for a final settlement figure and we can take your payment over the phone.

What if I want to leave O2 and end my O2 Refresh plan?
You just need to pay off whatever's left on your Phone Plan. Then you can either sign up to a new plan, or leave O2. If you'd like to leave O2, after you pay off your Phone Plan, ask us for your PAC code or give us notice to cancel your account.

You'll also notice while signing up to this, on the credit agreement itself, it only states "£240" credit, the cost of the phone plan and excludes the cost of the airtime.

If you're still not convinced, read through the countless threads on this subject:
hotukdeals.com/dea…778
hotukdeals.com/dea…808
hotukdeals.com/dea…066
hotukdeals.com/dea…470
hotukdeals.com/dea…537
hotukdeals.com/dea…280
hotukdeals.com/dea…099

Bought this phone on release last year. Probably won't buy another Xperia after this one as a result.

Credit where it's due, it was a decent phone in fairness and the ruggedness and waterproof features were nice, however the screen is utterly crap, hardly any vibrance with the colours, everything just looks a bit.. grey.

Upgraded now to the Note 3 but if I was looking at a phone in this sort of gen I'd definitely pick the S3.

Not sure what you mean about the software, I own an Xperia Z and I find it great. Doing a quick search I didn't really find anything alarming either?

not sure why people slate this phone, wife has it and it gets all the knocks anyone could want and its still fresh as a daisy
GREAT battery life, great screen, ok there might be better screens but can i really tell the difference? the camera is great too and its a very snappy phone to navigate
i use a one x+ which is old by phone tech standards ( still more of a phone than any1 really needs ) and this is much quicker in what it does, looks better etc etc
also its had more software upgrades than my htc has so its better supported too and before any1 says anything, these are upgrades not bug fix's. all too many of modern day phones are forgotten about in 3 months when the new one comes out, most of us have them 24 months now so i wish they'd support us a little longer

The screen has the same viewing angles as the "sweet spot" of the 3D mode on a Nintendo 3DS, i.e. tiny.

It's a TN panel, just like in the Z1. Both phones are only a year/6 months old. That is inexcusable.

Thankfully the Z2 finally has an awesome screen.

Or, the non refurbished can still be had for £10/month with £40 upfront.

not sure were talking about the same phone here, 443 ppi and full hd screen isnt anything to be sniffed at, some people just quote stuff on here without actually using it, believe me its a good screen and as for viewing angles, you hold it in your hand what more could you ask for, its also great anywhere i need to put it in the car
the deal may have expired but for anyone getting this, you wont be dissapointed

This phone really is pants, I owned it for all of three days before I sold it on. The screens viewing angles were terrible, the battery was not great and the flash/torch pitiful. If you must have a cheep waterproof go for this but if its a gimmick you can live without go for the Nexus 5 for similar money.

You're just quoting meaningless specs. Full HD is pointless on phone screens. The industry as a whole is only giving us these resolutions to try and trick people into thinking the companies manufacturing them are being innovative. It's natural progression.

The simple fact is, its a TN panel. Viewing angles are terrible, and this contributes towards poor colour gamut and washed out blacks.

Plus you seem to be the only person here that is disagreeing with the almost universally poor opinions of the screen quality.

Just bought Blackberry Q5 from amazon, cheapest 4G phone and you can run android app on it !! amazing
