Another O2 Refresh Deal. Potential cost £376.49 for unlocked Z2. Even cheaper if you buy the £100 Sony Xperia Z1 tablet and sell on ebay.

1. Pre-order the Sony Xperia Z2 in Black or Purple through TCB currently paying £151.50, last day for exclusive rate

Tariff Unlimited mins and text, 8GB data £19.99 upfront cost £48 monthly cost ( £20 for phone plan, £28 for airtime plan)

2. Receive phone and unlock (http://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-and-devices/unlocking-an-o2-mobile-to-use-on-a-different-network#qs)

3, TCB currently paying out on average 2 weeks 3 days, wait for cashback.

4. Call up O2 to pay off phone contract (£480) and cancel airtime plan

Final costs £19.99 upfront + first bill £48 ( £20 for phone plan, £28 for airtime plan) + remaining phone cost (480-20) = £527.99

If you get TCB then 527.99 - 151.50 = £376.49 for unlocked Z2

*********
If you preorder today you can also claim a Sony Xperia Z1 tablet for £100, currently selling for £220ish on ebay. (www.sonymobile.com/O2preorder)

********
Just ordered mine and TCB tracked at £151.50 within 5 minutes. I've done many of these O2 Refresh deals before and never had a problem paying off the phone and cancelling the airtime contract.

take it these refresh deals are no way a contract and at same time as you … take it these refresh deals are no way a contract and at same time as you pay phone off you can cancel the airtime bit.

Thats where im confused.

OP States 4. Call up O2 to pay off phone contract (£480) and cancel airtime plan

So you pay off the 24x £20 = £480 (Phone Plan) but you leave £28 x 24 Contract.

I dont think you can just 'cancel airtime plan' - I understand its a 24 month contract.

Which im cool with. £150 profit (potentially) on the Tablet + £157 CashBack in (potentially) 3 weeks = £300

So its going to cost me (£480 - £300) £180 for the phone - and then £18 a month for 24 month contract.

Which at the moment, I beleive is the best deal going.

(I went for the £38 deal instead of the £48 deal - as I dont ever go over 2GB - I download everything at home)

I was referring to the Z1 Compact

As per my previous posts about it above
hmm i dont think the phones the best aesthetically, but a good deal.
Went for this deal @ 10am this morning (cheers to the poster), and TCB tracked at £151. One question though, when cancelling the airtime contract - it would be useful to know when best to do this. As somebody has already mentioned, too early and the cashback may not get paid, and too late (after the cashback has been paid) and the 30 day notice will mean I would potentially have to pay 1 and a half or 2 months, rather than just one. In other words, assuming TCB takes 2 weeks to pay, giving 4 weeks notice at this point would mean that you are 'in-contract' for 6 weeks (surely a bill of more than 1 month?).

Replies are appreciated.

Hmmm, I dont mind if it takes a few months, as im happy to pay the contract for a handful, just so I dont jeoparidise the payout.

However, from the link posted above I found

How does O2 Refresh work?
When you buy a phone with O2 Refresh, you sign up for 24 months and still have the same monthly payment as you would now. The difference is your payment is split into two parts: a Phone Plan and an Airtime Plan, for your calls, texts and data.

When you want to get the latest new smartphone, just pay off whatever's left on your Phone Plan, and you are free to upgrade. Or maybe you want to lower your monthly bill before 24 months is up. Just pay off your Phone Plan and carry on with the Airtime Plan for calls, texts and data.

Everything else on O2 is the same. You can experience Priority. Get free advice and make the most of your tech with O2 Gurus. Access free O2 Wifi nationwide. And more.

Paying special attention to:
"just pay off whatever's left on your Phone Plan, and you are free to upgrade"

Free to upgrade? But not to leave? I.e. im locked into 24 months, but I can upgrade and go for another phone?

Im not sure... I cant find anything definitive that says where and what I can pay off - and when I can leave.
o2.co.uk/ref…ank
Yes, you'll be signing up to a new 24 month O2 Refresh tariff with a Phone Plan and Airtime Plan where the total package is of equivalent value to your old handset tariff. But with O2 Refresh you'll then be able to get the new smartphone whenever you want by paying off what's outstanding on your Phone Plan. For full details see our terms and conditions.

The TCB has gone back up for 5 days.
Also, they reserve the right to send you the higher spec 3g Z tablet, which would be amazing for 100 quid.

I think I should have done the same, wonder how quick standard delivery is...

Edit: Just spoke to someone via Live chat, apparently my order has been dispatched today.

Was signing up but o2 are wanting a deposit of £450 to continue!? After 3 months of clear billing you'll get the deposit back.
o2 live chat said I'd get the deposit back if I pay off teh phone plan and wouldn't have to pay for 3 months airtime.

But now this concerns me in the T+C's when signing up:

Your Pay Monthly Mobile Agreement has a minimum contract term called a Minimum Period. After that Minimum Period, you can end the Agreement by giving us 30 days' Notice. Unless specified otherwise (such as in your Tariff Terms), if you want to end the Agreement during the Minimum Period or we end this Agreement as a result of your material breach, then you will have to pay a fee of no more than your Monthly Subscription Charges multiplied by the number of months left in your Minimum Period and if you've taken Equipment on a Hardware Plan, you will have to pay for it in full. Details are in paragraph 8 of the Agreement.

Seems odd them asking you for such a large deposit... did they ring you after placing the order online?
I spoke to them on live chat, it's due to failing the credit check apparently.
I tried to get this deal but card kept getting declined so giving up. Still quite happy with my original XZ.

If you can get the contract cancelled in time, get the cashback and want / need the tablet, it's a superb deal. I suspect some people may get the 3g Tablet too, when I got the original XZ I got the headphone offer and got the uprated bluetooth headphones.

bonchai, in the previous O2 Refresh deals you had gotten, when did you cancel the airtime, and did this ever affect your cashback?
Caveat on TCB:
Please note, cashback is no longer available on upgrades.

Would Refresh ever be considered an 'Upgrade' if we did pay off the phone and 'refresh' a new phone?

The way they would it on their website (I.e. O2) they say when you pay off the Phone Plan, you are free to UPGRADE

Eugh. Such a grey area.

Did you get charged for 2 months or 1? (air time)

I got charged for the only the first month, i was expecting 2 months.
People, you are signing up for a 24 month plan, but it's been gone over so many times. There is no airtime early termination fee to pay off, only the phone plan. You just pay whatever airtime you have used to date.

Just search O2 refresh deals, and every single one of them say the same thing over and over again. It's not a trick, it's O2 being nice, and taking the risk that you will like the idea so much you will stay.

As long as you don't take a new phone for the plan, you can do this as much as you like, and it will be a new contract.

Been after this phone for a while, Nice one, just ordered even though I just bought a HTC One Max...couldn't resist. Thanks OP

You got me worked up with Your calculation mate... I was wondering. The phone will def cost you more than £180 as you paid £49 up front .

So thats

£50 + £480 = £530

Provided all other things work out fine Then Phone would have come up to £230 or even £280 if Tablet goes for just about £200.
I received mine today and cancelled it today will put a claim in if tcb don't pay out
Just ordered. was wanting a Note 3, but this might suit me a little better, and have been very impressed with the Z1 Compact I bought the wife. Cracking deal, and I'm keeping the plan too so got 8Gb contract with an O2 Open code.
