To buy without a mandatory top-up:

There is a 'Keep Existing SIM' option at the bottom of the 'Bundles' page, which allows you to purchase a PAYG phone without a top-up. Unfortunately Vodafone now hides this button a few seconds after the page has loaded. You have to be quick to click the button, if you miss it simply hit F5 or the 'Refresh' button on your browser to reload the 'Bundles' page and try again.

Another way to "catch" the keep existing sim button is to use Firefox, click "View - Page Style - No Style" and the text page appears. The button doesn't disappear. Ctrl-F to search for "Keep" and job done. I'm sure other browsers may have this feature, but I have checked this in Firefox on a Mac and it works.

Just bought honor 6 wish I had waited
WHAT "bundles page" ?
Forgive a possible stupid question, but I have one of these already and love it, thinking of getting another incase break my current one. Are these easy to unlock and do Vodafone's come with much bloat that can't uninstall? I'm on Tesco mobile and got my last one from o2 so no need for me to unlock my current one.

When I click on the click keep existing sim button it takes me to a blank page. Have tried in multiple browsers and on different devices.
Tried it both ways. Goes to a blank page for me.

WHAT "bundles page" ?

Choose phone will take you to the bundles page, if 'Keep Existing SIM' takes you to a blank page hit the back button on your browser then refresh the page and your cart will update.

I should warn you that its common for the whole screen to make a clicking sound on this handset when you press on the display. I got one last week and it's a bad example of one which has this common fault, just google z3 compact screen noise and you will see. just thought I'd let you know, the phone is great but with this issue it sounds like its not been pit together correctly and I can't live with it, Vodafone have also been more than useless at facilitating the return. if you buy online you cannot return to store you have to phone and get a returns bag sent to your home. I was advised initially I could take it to the store only to be told when i got there that they can't do jack. useless so they are.

going to hold out and see if any other smaller handsets come out this year. it is a lovely handset though just wish it didn't have this design flaw

any cheapest way unlock code guys ? £12 really expensive.normaly other phones just a few pounds

Isn't this a really old phone now ?

Yep it is around 18 years old now

When it was released a couple of years ago it was the flagship phone so even though its not cutting edge its still a bargain at this price and will outperform most others around the same price point.
I'm pretty sure the previous cheapest price was £149 where hundreds from here (including me) bought it.

Can we please fast forward to people struggling to get the "without sim" button to appear X)

Had mine since last year and my sister has one too. Neither of us have had that problem. Really good phone especially at this price!

Get a tempered glass protector for a few quid from eBay. I always drop my phone and have never had a cracked screen

The previous deal shouldn't have really been expired - hotukdeals.com/dea…275

The direct link to buy with the option to keep your own SIM won't work - it's session specific. Instead, if you have Google Chrome installed follow these instructions (from previous deal).....

Google Chrome Browser Method
*********************************************

1. Using the Google Chrome browser, install the ex
tension here - chrome.google.com/web…=en This will allow you to disable Javascript when needed in the points below.

2. Go to shop.vodafone.co.uk/sho…783

3. Select White or Black and then click 'Choose Phone' (Update: Only black in stock now)

4. Using the add on disable Javascript

5. Refresh the page. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the button 'Keep your existing SIM'

6. At this point the page will look blank

7. Turn Javascript back on via the add on.

8. Replace the URL with, or navigate in a new window to: shop.vodafone.co.uk/sho…jsp

You should now see....

Mozilla FireFox Browser Method
*********************************************

In FireFox an alternative method:

1. Type 'About:Config' into the navigation bar.

2. Click the button to say you'll be careful!

3. In the Search bar type 'javascript.enabled'

4. Double click the top entry for 'javascript.enabled' to toggle the value to display as 'false'

5. Go to shop.vodafone.co.uk/sho…783

6. Click the 'Choose phone' purple button.

7. On the next page you'll see a 'Keep your existing SIM' button. Click this and continue the purchase.

8. Once you've purchased your phone repeat steps 1 - 4 to turn Javascript back on.

i know 4 people that have had this phone and it has cracked, leading them to have to get a replacement
for what reason do we need to buy this old phone?
i have had 3 different xperia so i can speak -

xperia phones may be good re hardware etc but build quality is very questionable,

My first xperia phone for example - the xperia SP was very good at first until a bit of water got under the screen and i suffer with that interfering whenever i touched the screen and generally got in the way of typing and tapping etc, tried everything to fix it but to no avail.

Ask for the z3, it showed scratched in under a week and trust me i am a very careful user and then cracked on the back cover next and then the button started getting wonky...

anyway they work ok internally but the body build is very bad:|

a proper case will avoid these kind of issues. I have been using z3 for about 1 year with a case mate hard case and tempered screen protector and it has survived (until now) countless drops on hard and soft floor. And I dont think they are designed to survive tiny/big drop.
Anyone know if you can upgrade these to the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow O/S? Ta

As someone who bought this deal when it was posted 1~ month ago. Here are some Q's answered:

1) Phone can be updated to 6.0.1, and currently has a Feb 2016 security policy.
2) I have had no clicking screen as previously mentioned, no problems from my model.
3) Box comes with USB connector, charger, screen protector for front & back (back is also glass!)
4) I unlocked mine using code from an eBayer mentioned in the previous Z3 Compact thread. But beware that some users had issues getting a working code. Not sure if this is fault of the eBay seller though. It works OK on Three network, although my 4G coverage is not so great.
5) Vodafone app will try to run 24/7 in background and cannot be disabled/removed. Instead you can block all it's permissions (thank you Android 6!), and hide all notifications of the app.
6) Vodafone will try to call you after the sale and sell you a SIM card plan, annoying.
7) I recommend getting a magnetic charger, it will charge faster and no messing with the side slots!

Overall, I'm happy with the phone so far. As a Z3 user this is a great compact version, it keeps all the main features with only difference being the 2GB RAM rather than Z3's 3GB. X)

There is a concept program run by sony (open to Z3/Z3C owners) in which Marshmallow is the software used xperiablog.net/201…te/.

I think Sony has also officially released marshmallow for these models.

To those obsessed with updating their phone to most recent OS -

For every new update to the Android OS on your phone, the more control of your phone Google has.

They may sell it to you that they are blocking security holes and giving you new jazzier UI etc etc,

...but the truth is - they 'may be' preventing hackers access to your phone whilst giving themselves and certain apps full access to it - to monitor everything on it and everything u do on it -

...from knowing and downloading all your contracts, to full access to your camera and microphone, which they can and/or certain apps can switch on (ie your camera) and take pics of u sleeping or doing other things u may not want others taking pics of u whilst u are doing those things...or switching on your microphone and monitoring things said in private etc...and that's just naming a few of the new controls Google is continuously bringing to your device with every update.
A lot of phone for the money. Never had any issues in a year. 2 year Sony warranty for peace of mind.
very low build quality on these.

high specs but id avoid sony phones tbh.

When you go back and refresh the bundles page obviously its going to stay on the bundle page as your only refreshing that page, but the Basket icon at the very top of the page will go from empty to full, click that icon.

Yeah but it's a solid performer still. Swapped from an LG G Flex 2 to one of these because the performance is better. Great battery life and really responsive.
Great little phone. One big plus for me is the excellent FM radio which hardly uses much battery at all.
One Thing to be careful of, going back to a small screen can take a lot of getting used to for browsing the web.

I use mine as a very handy backup phone.

Agree, if this works for you. I found disabling Java the best way.
If you want a small, fairly powerful phone with great battery life, this phone is the only option.

I've got one of these cases, very happy with it.

Is it Just the Z3 Compact you guys are talking about with this issues?

I have owned a Regular Z3 since launch week and it's been dropped, slammed and rolled about in the center part of the car since then, no screen issues or glass damage at all!
