Been looking for a new phone off-contract to replace my ailing Moto G 4G, but haven't been willing to pay the exorbitant amounts required for a current flagship device, and found too many compromises (for my needs at least) in the price bracket of the current generation Moto G. Sony devices have intrigued me for a while (primarily due to the dedicated camera button), and was considering getting one from Amazon Germany when I saw a link to this whilst checking reviews. Currently £429.99 (SIM free) from Carphone Warehouse

Can't remember what they changed in the Plus from the regular Z3, but the Z3 Compact (if you need something a little more....compact) is £149 at Vodafone (locked) - hotukdeals.com/dea…275

Overheating issues reported massively- hence reduced price for Plus version of Z3
did the overheating issue ever get sorted on this phone?
AFAIK not yet
Sony Xperias are fantastic phones, not filled with bloatware, my z2 is 2 years old 90% memory full and still runs like new admittingly the battery isn't as good after 2 years of heavy use. The Z3 plus has a stronger processor and apparently heats the phone up, all Xperia run hot but never used a z3 plus. £250 I might grab it.
My Sony Z5 Premium is on fire figuratively most days, so no the overheating from the processor is still and always will be a problem.
Anyone know how easy it is to get it unlocked? Are you required to take a min £10 topup? I'm on EE with my current Z2.

It's currently £255 here and is unlocked I think so might be less hassle though I'd prefer to buy it from a shop it can be returned to.

Cheers

I didn't have to pay for a top-up when I ordered it, so I don't believe it's required. I also wanted the ability to return it easily if I'm not happy with it, hence this rather than ordering from the EU.

Thanks. What about getting it unlocked?

Spoke to O2 who confirmed that when you pick up the phone you will be required to take a min £10 topup and you cannot get it unlocked till after 12 months.

Alternative option they gave was to take out a 30 day rolling sim(cheapest one I could see was £12) and then cancel after the 30 days and request the unlock.

Just collected my order - didn't have to buy a top-up, so one definitely isn't required.
Fixed the overheating issue with marshmallow 6 update, my Z3+ is always on and never had it heating up
Not bad deal, but decided the new Sony XA is a better deal and is brand new.
