perfect camera..terrible screen..720 x 1280 IPS LCD

Terrible screen, have you used one?

The screens on these, because they are so small, are on par with a lot of the 1080p screens being produced right now.
We had one, and this is one helluva phone for this price.

You've got my vote @Desi.Guy

How its terrible screen?

720P(323 ppi density) is fine for 4.6 inch screen

or you want QHD lol

It gives you advatnge in battery life and gaming as has to push less pixel

Think you're missing the point. Many of us buy compacts because we actually prefer a smaller phone, not to save a few "bucks". The enhancements you list are secondary.

Amazing phone, only reason why i sold mine because it used to over heat when recording at high resolutions. A known problem with phones using the Snapdragon 810 chipset.

Totally agree. I read these comments on screen resolution and genuinely wonder if trolling.

I used a z3c extensively until the digitiser gave up on me, and can honestly say, using a screen of this size, you will not notice any pixelation etc in general use, and any hit on battery for the 4k resolution, or even 1080p, is worth the sacrifice.

Imho on a phone of this size, it's general performance that matters, not screen resolution. Screen resolution is just something to 'up' the specs.
Good price with revised snapdragon 810 still snappy and fast performance, can't say that about most of the s5 which have literally slowed down

Clown. On a phone this size ant greater resolution is for bragging only, battery is far greater as a result and get better performance too with no impact to image quality
How does this compare to the z3 compact had two of them and loved them, just kept smashing them up 🙈

Actually if you ask my preferance ( i dont use VR where QHD is big plus) then i would wish i get 720P or maximum 1080 P on smartphone . Quality of display is not just about pixel density but colour accuracy, minimum/maximum brightness, sunlight visibility etc . Having 720 or 1080 P screen on latest flagship would give us excellent battery and overall fludity .. I wish manfacture bother more about battery than increasing pixel and CPU/GPU, RAM. I would take 720P quality display on 5 inch mobile with 835 snapdragon, 4 GB RAM if offer all others goodies i.e best battery, best camera, waterproofing, durability , Quick updates, stock software, design, memory with sd card eyc

Glass back never again. Owned a Z3 compact and it didn't last long. Only will buy metal back phones from now on.

I used the z3c and know someone who used the z5c. Both very similar in performance but the 5c ran a fair bit hotter when pushed due to the processor in this.

Could be worth getting one for my dad. As he is not getting on with the iPhone 6s
Heat and 2GB of ram was the reason I upgraded from this phone and the only reason I needed more RAM and the phone got hot was pokemon go. If you don't play that they I highly recommend it.

I had the same problem with the digitiser...Phone was working perfectly fine, then spent 6 months in a drawer unused. Went to trade it in and only half of the touchscreen would work. It looks like a common fault with the Z3 compact, but Sony won't admit it's a defect.

Agree, I have had both (still keep the Z3C as a back-up whilst using the Z5C) and confirm that just watching videos etc can cause the phone to heat up somewhat. I noticed the Z5C is a bit chunkier than the Z3C but it is good phone for the money and very good at this price.

Not just me then - I had two go bad like this when I went to use them again after a period of not being used. Only saw it on the Z3 Compact; Z5 and above have been great.
It's still a good phone and I am a major advocate for smaller framed phones. The age is starting to show though. It's close on to 3 years old now and new budget phones have comparable or better chipsets, more memory, Android Oreo. The model after, the X compact gets it, the Z5C does not.

There are also known build issues I encountered. It does get quite hot, the digitisers have problems with no warning (it can fail immediately and permanently for no apparent reason), and the screen can suffer burn/discolouration/banding. So check these carefully if you buy a used example.

I moved onto an XZ2 compact now. I felt the Z5 compact was a good phone, but not quite as good as the Z3 compact was. Mainly because of the aforementioned problems. I personally saw those three problems with the Z5C I used over a two year period.
My z3c used to get very hot
just bought a x compact for 135 quid, wondering if the z5 wouold have been better? Upgrading from my trusty z3 compact that has given up the ghost.
I have had this phone since launch... I like that it is compact but the negatives are... camera is a bit laggy to open and take a shot....and it is VERY fragile... even with a bumper case the rear and front glass cracked recently after I dropped it.
Will be buying something more rugged next phone.

Z5c is faster and waterproof but X Compact has an extra GB RAM and better camera. If money allows, the XZ1 Compact is the ultimate balance!

How long is a piece of string? CeX grading has little to do with what they say and is more closely tied to the store you get it from, whether it's corporate or franchised and what the weather was like in the Maldives 2 days ago. Basically I’ve had the worst B grades (trashed displays and dirty third-party non-CE accessories) and then I’ve had nearly new, mint ones with boxes and only graded B because it had a third-party USB lead.

Ahh ok cool, think the extra GB of ram could really help me and as I don't play any games etc I doubt i'll notice the speed difference. Just looking also, it gets oreo as the z5 doesn't? Is Oreo good ? Or stick with nougat.
Thanks mate

Actually the faster CPU (former flagship SD810) in the Z5 seems to be of more benefit all things equal but it doesn’t make a massive difference. When I got rid of my Z5c it was on 7.1.1 I think and it hadn’t slowed down, it was just the AR coating on the camera was a bit scuffed and camera was slower to use and focus than I would like.

I had an XZ that I upgraded to Oreo which broke it - outrageous lag (2-3 seconds to open the keyboard) and the phone got blocked so I got rid. And now I have an XZ1 Compact that had Oreo preloaded - it’s super quick and lag-free but it does have 4GB RAM and an SD835 so it’s right at the top. Be ware of updating your phone if you don’t need to is all I’ll say and if you get it from CeX online and ever need to return it, do it in-store, they tend to take it back no fuss.

The people who buy the compacts of this world, are buying a compact because they want a compact phone, they aren't buying it, only for someone to turn around and say,
"hey but you can get a much bigger phone for £8 more"

I had x compact, bought instead of z5 because far fewer issues, z5 chipset just too hot and unreliable. On issue with x was Sony lost its way and gave mid range spec on compact phone like other manufactures previously
snapdragon 810 had issues with heating(thermal throttling ) especially when you were playing graphic intensive gaming or 4k recording but still heat was tolerable at least for me...

rest top end snapdragon chip fixed it . It was this bad reputation of SD810 that many manufacture went for slower Snapdragon 808
