Very nice price, and Have been pleasantly surprised with Grade B's before from Smartfonestore.

£5 Quidco too.
I am very tempted to buy have had to return a Z5 Compact back to CEX as the screen was peeling off on arrival (blimey).

Anyhow, I am aware that since the recent upgrade to 7.1.2 the Z5 Compact is supposedly having battery issues, in some cases, and it looks like that maybe the final update (?).
If any owners can advise as I think it's potentially a great buy, but I don't want no issues, maaaaaan.

It’s two years old so 7.1.2 will probably be the final official update. ‘Battery issues’ are likely due to the SD810 which is notoriously hot and power hungry. Even when manufacturers later patched SD810 phones (aka clocked it down and reduced the thermal temp ceiling).

I bought one on release when DxO claimed it had the best camera ever on a smartphone. The camera was a noisy mess and it was like holding a hot potato. Can only imagine the state of the used batteries in these given how they burned through a cycle of charge. Be surprised if they are 80% of original capacity.

I have just ordered one, well worth a go at this price for me, and have ten day no quibble return if it does have the possible issues I have heard of.

Looks like there has been an update the other day which might have improved things , from what I have just read on XDA, anyway.

I was all set to get the new xz1 compact, but it's £500 and has no FM radio (been great FM radios on Xperias up to now), so will give that a miss for a while.

Theres been a few issues with the xperias just lately with recent android updates, I had to send my Z5 compact back to o2 as it kept having issues with the System UI keeping crashing, the text messaging app keeps crashing the sound was terrible and when I sent it back I had over 100+ app failures not inc the System UI failures in under 10 days, I was advised to flash it back to 6.0.1 as the 7.1.1 is causing a lot of problems, I thought sod that upgraded to a XZ and low and behold its getting System UI crashes and now been to to flash it back to 6.0.1 as its more stable

Weird, had a Z5C since pretty much launch and it's been great. Still using it now, and certainly have no camera issues?

Same here, the other half got one at launch and still uses it heavily, it does get hot but other than that it's been great.

Decent for the money.

I loved my Z5 it was an upgrade from my Z1 even by todays new phone standard its a powerful phone just let down by recent updates, if you go on the Support section in your settings and go to the support forum then phones and tablets section you can see just how many people are mentioning the app and System UI crash problems

Thanks for the info and advice

Great phone, had mine since launch and it's never let me down.

ordered, went from z3 compact to a galaxy s7 edge and back to a z3 compact...

this is an upgrade for me... love these compact phones.

Got mine today, looks in good condition so far. Shame no accessories though, haven't yet switched it on.

Be interested to see what the battery life is like - in the dilemma myself of wanting a compact phone (so basically either an Xperia or an iPhone SE) but I really can't warrant the £500 they want for the XZ1c!

Got mine today too..came well-packed, no accessories apart from a charging cable though.

Physically perfect, and all running smooth
It's the slightly newer model E5823, so has faster downloads than the E5803 apparently, and it's noticeably fast to me.

Did a quick battery test an hour of you tube on WiFi took just 8%, so looks very good camera seems.fine and sharp. Fm radio is very good

It has automatically downloaded the latest firmware, (ends. 160) but from what I have read I will lay off that as it on Nougat already and seems great really.
Yet to put in a sim card, or an SD card, but very happy with it so far. Absolute bargain for £120

I too was thinking if the ZX1 buy the lack of Fm radio, and it moving to the new charging cable, oh and it being £500.... Put me off

This is an absolute bargain

I got a couple, and although they seem undamaged, there's a fair amount of fluff and 'gunge' in the ports etc...

I might risk a gentle clean under running water

Great review. I've fully charged mine now and put a 128gb sd card and my plusnet sim in and transferred stuff from my old z3 compact with ease using the nfc. Positive experience so far...

What case you all going for? I've ordered a ringke from Amazon so will see how that looks tomorrow.

Also on the back of this, just bought a white one for the missus as she's rocking an old cheap and slow Samsung a3, so although we'll have the same phone, it'll make my life easier when she asks me to do things on it rather than the pain she caused me when she had an iPhone!

I just had an s line gel case i had got from Amazon last month for the dodgy one i got from cex. Its okay, only cost £2 i think, i just like a basic case.

As i mentioned earlier, its on 7.0 at start up, and from what i have read its best to keep it in that if not too late (mine had automatically downloaded the update, which i then cleared after format resetting the phone and set NO to automatic download when it restarted)

Deffo got a little bit warm when it was restarting, but the processor was doing a lot of work amd that understandable, has been fine all other times.

balls, i let mine update... will see how it goes, it got warm after much usage last night but with winter coming i wont be complaining...

battery is nothing special, i tend to like to use the battery saver as early as 50% anyway

If it becomes an issue and you're comfortable flashing ROMs, as its a major phone I'm sure plenty of custom ROMs exist for the phone

Original Poster

Flylife probably will still be okay, and I think there is another update either coming soon or available now (.54).

Anyhow, incase folk don't know, xda is a good resource for such info, and also for custom.roms, etc...

Ah don't think i have time to get involved with all that sadly.

For what it's worth I've found a fault, albeit very small. On a white background I can see one pixel a slightly different shade of white, it's fine with a dark background. Noticed it when running diagnostics... Not major and will see how it goes

Link to the xda thread on.. 160 update...

On last couple of pages seems to be that folk have a couple of cures if any issues (it seems fifty fifty whether people do or not)

Disabling the movie creator app, and also doing a factory reset after the update seems to help if having issues.

Anyhow, really liking this phone, very nice

The white one came today for the girlfriend, pretty much similarly set up to match mine but without the update to android 7.1.1. One thing I did notice was when a call took place on hers, the screen would go off which can make things tricky, it was like it was screen locked to off ... After a few tweaks to settings, couldn't work out what was causing it. Mine was fine but had been updated to 7.1.1. So in the end I just updated hers and it fixed it. Worth knowing anyway. Other than that, yeah screen gets warm but nothing else obviously bad at the moment

Just to add i have let mine update now, and there was a further update (.54 I think which is the latest update) and all has been good.

Been a bargain, very happy with it, no issues.
