Think you could get a good spec 50" plasma for about the same price.
these rear projections are a bit old fashioned and bulky now

I was gonna say, title is a bit misleading. Its a rear projection, not a LCD...

please change title to read '50" Rear Projection TV'. so people like me won't click on it and go: 'oh, it's rear projection, not LCD.'

Yes and you would be in trouble if the projector went. Mine had to go to the tip!

Having said that it did last 5 years so I can't complain. You can pick up a 40" Bravia for that price (LCD) so it's not bad for the size of screen you are getting. Or even a plasma?

It depends what you are looking for at the end of the day and it does come with a stand too. Not a bad deal all in all.

This is great tv. Its 50" HD Ready - great stand - and looks really good. (and its a sony).
Highly recommend it!

The technology behind this uses 3 LCD chips, through rear-projection. I have this TV, and it's very good for the money - although I picked it up for £707 inc VAT from Makro back in April, I haven't seen it cheaper since.

Things I like are - that it comes with a stand, has a true 1280x720 resolution (so no upscaling of 720p sources), has 2 RGB scarts and the freeview is quick (which I find slow on Samsung sets for example - and it really bugs me!).

Things I don't like are that the blacks aren't as black as you'd expect on an LCD TV (took a bit of getting used to compared to my old CRT), it overscans slightly (like a CRT TV does), and that the VGA input only takes 1024x768 res maximum (although a DVI->HDMI cable will support 1280x720 as well as giving better quality - only about £5 from ebuyer).

Replacement bulbs are available although I believe they can be about £100. But under normal use they last about 3 years, so not bad really. The size isn't really a major concern for me as it sticks out the same as a glass table would to put an LCD on anyway. I measured that it sticks out about ~50-60cm from the wall - and again, the stand comes for free!

Got one of these myself.

Spent ages setting it up with DVE and it look's fantastic.

Highly recommend it.

Might not be lcd or plasma, but an awesome set for the cash. Make Wii playtime really fun.

Not sure if Iam right but I thought you could not use consoles or PC's on rear projection as they burn the screen to easily?

Apparently these sets don't suffer from burn in for some reason (according to some tv forums I read a while back).. I use my Wii, Xbox and Xbox 360 with it regularly (infact it's the main use of the TV), and I have no problems.

Why all the cold votes ?.Seems cheap for a 50'' HD ready Sony TV even if it is a rear projection model. My mate's got one of these (don't know if its exactly the same model but it is Sony and the same spec) and I thought it was pretty damn good.He bought it a couple of years back and paid WAY more than this !!!!.

i was looking at these about 18 months ago and investigated a load into this. Ended up with the sagem hd-d50, similar priced, but a whole lot better. It's a digital light projection tv, not rear projection. Rear projection is **** quality, dlp is superb
