Just bought a Sound activated socket from Fleabay for £10 called "The Clapper".

Went looking again and just typed in sound activated plug and brought up this one which is virtually the same design i bought from fleabay buy at £2.99 + £1.60 postage making it £4.59.

Its been reduced from £4.99 .

If you bought 3 it would only cost you an extra £1.32 against what bought 1 for. 3 x £2.99 + £2.35 = £11.32

It works off 3 claps for on and 3 claps for off however it also has an away mode which is activated by any sound in a close vicinity. It turns it on for 10 minutes and then automatically turns its self off.

Might be handy for some.

Maybe thats why they where in a 99p shop!!

These ones have Adjustable sensitivity sound control so if it goes off and on like yours its adjustable.

Also the AWAY secuirty mode turns it on for 10 minutes not just a few seconds.

Awesome I need to get one of this voted hot

You must have custody of a Seal on the weekends and this product would make your inter-species "special time" a fuse nightmare?!

Also if it helps anyone who buys one or more of these. If they dont work its usual the fuse. Now this isnt a normal type fuse its a glass fuse. The following is the part you need:

5 Amp F5A F5AL 250v 10 Glass Fuse Fast Blow 20 x 5mm

There £1.65 for 10 off fleabay

Hope this helps.

Never heard of the website - anyone used them before?

Bought this same model from Dunnes (N.I.) for a fiver.

I have to agree I'm afraid.

i often let a few 'clappers' out when i'm digesting my Sunday roast, although it would be entertaining manipulating the flow of electricity with the power of my flatulence, i am sure the novelty would soon pass.

My friend's wife bought him one of these for Christmas, that put paid to his Morris dancing videos. Then again maybe that was the idea.

250max,unreliable,crap.
bought a box of 25 at 99p each last year returned few hours later. Kept only one to try but it is wasting of money

ORDERED 1 - THANKS

It will be fine if you can refrain from spanking your monkey the second you step foot in your house.

Ha. Reminds me of the TV scene in the film 'Duplex/Our House'...

"Clap on! Clap off! The clapper! Ch-ch-ch-chia!" Argh, I think just about every line from Wayne's World is etched in my brain.

Ha always wanted one of these

Ivana: When did you get "The Clapper"?
Austin: November, 1964, Dutch East Indies, shore leave.

Received mine this morning, plugged it in and it worked the 1st time now nothing. No lights, nothing!

replaced the 1A fuse with a 5A one (not sure if thats okay?) and it works fine now!

Likewise - fuse blew first time I used it . Trouble now is lights go on and off even when you you walk across the laminate

I did point out the 5amp fuse replacement on the first page. They use glass fuses, most have 5 amps and there £1.69 off Ebay

The original supplied 1A fuse is a normal looking, metal fuse, not glass. The 5A fuse I replaced it with is also a normal metal looking one. Does anyone know if thats fine or not?

Or should I get a glass one as lavondys says?

The supplied fuse is a "fast blow" type. Most fuses sold for mains use are the "slow blow" type.

Both can be made from glass. In the fast blow type the fuse wire is suspended in air inside a glass tube with a spring at one end. In the slow blow type the fuse wire either runs inside a ceramic tube (which is what I suspect you mean by 'metal') or inside a sand-filled glass tube.

Usually "slow blow" fuses are use to protect against overload and "fast blow" types are used to protect against surges. The later type is used with electronics. Because they offer a different type of protection I'd stick with using whatever the manufacturer recommends.

Cheers for the info nick
