The Sound Blaster E5 is a 24-bit/192kHz high resolution USB DAC and portable headphone amplifier. Built with precision audiophile components, a best-in-class 600 ohm headphone amplifier and aptX technology for Bluetooth, the Sound Blaster E5 is the perfect audio component for music lovers, whether they are on the move or beside their PC/Mac.

Designed For The Audiophile In You
The Sound Blaster E5 is designed from the ground up, to reproduce high-fidelity audio with minimum distortion and noise. It is built on the flagship Cirrus Logic CS4398 Digital-Analogue Converter (DAC), with an impressively high 120dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) that supports sample rates of up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution.

Compact External USB DAC for PC / MAC
The Sound Blaster E5 is the result of Sound Blaster's relentless audio innovation since the PC era, backed by decades of legendary audio engineering expertise. With a proven track record of providing high-fidelity PC audio for discerning ears, the E5 now brings a high-resolution audio experience for your use with laptops, smart phones and tablets.

High-Resolution Audio Playback
Sound Blaster E5 is able to decode audio files ranging from MP3s and CDs (16-bit/44kHz) to high-resolution 24-bit/192kHz files, be it from your PC / Mac or other smart devices.

Powers High-impedance Headphones, With A Dual Gain Switch
A best-in-class Texas Instrument TI6120A2 headphone amplifier enables you to power any of the headphones available in the market, giving you clarity, details and a total harmonic distortion value plus noise (THD+N) of <0.005%.

The headphone amplifier utilises a current-on-demand design in the headphone output, which enables the amplifier to respond quickly without the risk of output distortion. When a large amount of power is suddenly needed, the amplifier can respond extremely quickly without raising the noise floor and thus degrades the signal-to-noise ratio.

Have a variety of normal and power-demanding headphones in your collection? The dual gain switch also allows you to match your headphones to the correct impedance from the Sound Blaster E5. This gives you flexibility in listening to music at the most optimal playback volume.

Does the Sound Blaster E5 work with PS4 console?

From this manual, I would say so. It needs to be connect via micro-USB.
I've got one. Never use it! Probably only ever used it once. Should sell if to be fair
This looks good for playing my flac files on my smartphone through my old pair of senhiesers...
Looks to be a fantastic upgrade for buttons.
But Be Aware: while bluetooth is possible from the source to this device, headphone connection is wired only.
Hot.
I have this and only use it with a laptop on night shifts, I don't use public transport anymore, so don't use it with my phone. The problem with using it wired to laptop, it is constantly charging, so the battery will be useless soon. Also if you use it wired to your phone it will also affect battery! (I forgot which way the charge goes sorry!)

In spite of the flaws it fits what I need and I get great audio. Check reviews before you buy
Purchased. Nice spot OP.

I think I read it as acting as a charger for phone...
I ordered one. :]

Very nice
Ooh, it does optical in an out? That's handy.

My concern is how good is the knob?

I use my knob a lot, but sometimes it can be really awkward to fully turn.

I use my knob a lot too but I don't have this problem.... Maybe you should see a doctor?

Try spraying it with some WD40 then wrenching it with a pair of mole grips.
Can you plug in two headphones with different impedance at the same time and still listen at a reasonable volume on both? (Vs a basic splitter with leaves one too loud and one too quiet)
120dB signal:noise ratio? That's only 20 bits.

As there are not separate gain controls for the two outputs (which would be impossible without using two amplifier chips) then no, you can't adjust them independently.
Price drop makes me wonder if a new version is about to be released?
Heat OP, ordered
I ordered one for sightly more last time it was on offer at Amazon, and must have got a defective one. Creative customer service was awful and slow.
I'll be returning it via amazon tomorrow for a refund - but effectively I've been loaning the company my money for over a month, wityh no working dac.
still voted hot , as it seems to work for everyone else.
