For weekend day trips to Brighton via Southern services you can buy their online DaySave ticket and use at ANY time at weekends [otherwise 10am+ & some London evening restrictions] - ie £14 with complete flexibility as to which service you use up/down (and can hop along the coast on other Southern services during the day if you wish). It MAY require you to buy upto 7 days ahead though and if you want a ticket on demand you can ONLY get from a Southern ticket machine Also good if more than 2 of you are travelling together, ie upto 4 can travel for price of 2! And up to one clear working day ahead [ie by Thursday for a Saturday trip] @ £16.50 you can get a print it yourself Southern AllNetwork Downlander which includes all of the Southern trains and some of Brighton's buses - eg coastal to Seven Sisters/Eastbourne. Though if you plan to use Brighton & Hove buses do check their online offers - eg a smartphone day ticket is only a few quid! (Some other offers too on the FCC services at weekends and for groups.)

Been this price for a while. I remember the days when I used to get a Brighton-London advance single for £2.50 with a rail card, only a couple of years ago.

Red Spotted Hanky charge a £10 'admin' fee, I discovered this recently :(

are you sure there is usually alwaya an admin fee

They normally charge £10 admin so I guess no admin fee is the deal?

More than that - this is true of all tickets bought in advance, be it online or at the station. The only exception will be some "advance purchase" tickets (as opposed to tickets purchased in advance), which exactly the same as above. Google "national rail conditions of carriage" and see the section on "your refund rights" and you can see that this is not a deal at all, simply what you are entilted to anyway.

I think this is unique to southern. Always buy my tickets there top cashback 6% too :)

Southern started generously with a fixed £2.50 TCB C/B last year, but not so generously as to credit it against a £6.50 fare! Fair enough perhaps except then, as now, no minimum fare was quoted. A claim and five nudges were all to no avail. Since then similar fares (for off peak rail card journeys) have also gone unrewarded, despite the pennies that they would now generate. I hope that at least those who buy more expensive fares get cashback as promised. As to cookies, they are cleared automatically on Firefox, which is dedicated to TCB transactions. All other retailer cashback seems to work OK, as promised!

There is nothing in the TCB terms for Southern that say anything about a mimimum fare ,i hadn"t realised they were on TCB ,all you can do is put a claim in with TCB within the 100 days as see if they can trace it ,like all cashbacks there"s sometimes the odd one or two that dont track .

did you clear your cookies before going through the TCB link? I would put a missing cashback claim in

Despite numerous tries I've never collected any TCB for Southern Railway to date. Is there a minimum fare to trigger cashback?

Southren is the train company providing rail services for South and South - East of united kingdom. All rail companies in UK can sell tickets for any route.

yes, i've booked through them before. Still the normal scotrail trains don't worry, normal tickets and things. They're mainly south of London but like many companies (such as transpenine or east coast or even virgin) they sell tickets outwith their own areas.

Reasonably priced tickets from Birmingham to London return aswel (£20)

Already posted surely -

Seems like a great deal. Never heard of the company. Is this genuine and are you travelling on any Scotrail Train?

Great deal and just in time for Easter!

No need to do anything special, what I do is continue from the 'book now' button and search for the cheapest prices on a variety of destinations/dates I might be relatively free for such a trip/day out.

nice offer got a ticket from brighton to victoria for £4.50!

Question for those who use this service. Would these tickets allow travel from Ashford international (Kent) through to Southampton (any station) ? Looking at Southerns area map it would seem so but my daughter who is the one travelling thinks it would be Southwestern for some of the journey, so the Daysave wouldnt apply?? I did email Southern but they seem to have a go slow on reply's.

I always recommend these for my friends. You can also have 4 people travelling £24 so works out £6 each. Restrictions apply during the week. But use anytime at the weekend

Southern used to be quite good as their site gave you discounts off all UK rail journeys but since they now restrict it to Southern trains only, it's of little use unless you live in their area. So cold.

Journeys must be made with Southern ONLY. You can buy your Standard or First Class Advance single train ticket at your local Southern ticket office but the 34% discount is only available online (on selected journeys). And remember, unlike some of our competitors we don't add booking fees or credit card charges. When booking your ticket online, to ensure you choose a journey on Southern services, once you've hit search please click 'Select your route' (located to the left of the search results) and choose the 'Southern' checkbox. It's that simple!

Thanks for the info - wouldn't have known otherwise...

Thank you Excellent price, although if I had read it properly I could of paid cheaper as under 5's free.. Oh well still happy paid £30 for 4 return Bmth to Gatwick :)

How does this work? With which railcard? At least with Network Railcard, there is a minimum discounted price clause that exceeds that.

I agree, these types of tickets must be presented at the manned gates and will not go through the automated machines. I have never had a problem either although it's a bit of a pain queuing up at Victoria.

Wouldn't the easiest thing to do would be to use the 'manned' gates, which would be advisable anyway if one is travelling with luggage. For those who haven't seen these Southern Railway cheap ticket deals on this site before would you please note that the tickets are TRAIN SPECIFIC and that the tickets cannot be read by their machines so one has to use the 'manned' gates to gain entry or exit to/from the platform. Personally I've never had any problems having to do this and any delay is minimal.

Clapham Junction to Gatwick = FROM £3.70 single Southern Trains (both depending on Travelling Times) = £5.90 Total If you bought a single ticket for the whole of the journey (on the same route) the cost would be £11.40

good deal - HA

Cant get 3.70£ from kingston, or any discount :(. Any idea on the best deal to get to gatwick from kingston on the 5th Oct?

It seems very date specific - I just got a quote for 2 tickets with one railcard for 38 pounds - only 7 pounds less than it would cost on the gatwick express. Normally I would book this, but as it's for specific trains back to London, and if my flight is delayed, I would rather go for the express.

Gatwick Express at it's inception was a private venture and there were adverts put out by Southern Railway saying that their service was cheaper. I have not seen these adverts since Southern Railway took over the Gatwick Express. What adverts you do see now from Southern refer to their cheap ADVANCED OFF PEAK fares (which is what this posting started out to be all about) to destinations usually at the end of the line, like Brighton/Eastbourne/Hastings/Portsmouth/Southampton etc. It just so happens that you can take advantage of these cheaper fares to get to Gatwick if you purchase your ticket in accordance with Southern's T&C's. As you have pointed out, during peak periods Southern trains are very busy and the regular commuter, who has on many occasions paid many thousands of pounds for an annual ticket only to find that they can't get a seat and their train might be held to make way for a train carrying passengers on their once or twice a year return trip to the airport, may not look too sympathetically on someone going to/from Gatwick with their luggage. Most commuters will tell you that, during peak hours, airport travellers would be better off using the Gatwick Express bearing in mind the little extra that the service will cost at those times.

This deal appears to have now changed. Up until last weekend it was possible to book pretty much any off peak ticket with the 25% discount on the whole UK network, but now it appears to apply only to Southern Railway journeys. great find ,thanks for sharing.

Good find! Interestingly that offer isn't listed on the National Rail website for Southern offers so a really good find! - it's only their "South Coast" area for the £10 (ie OP heading is optimistic) - the "Anywhere..." is £12.50 as OP says in your text (= still bargain) Whereas the Daysave tickets included on the OP's site are listed by N.Rail, and might be better value for some journeys/groups, though have to book further in advance and there's an evening blackout period around London as well as the morning one! MKD

Great find.. thanks... Cheers

The child prices are really good, only £2.50. Only of peak though, and buses are just east sussex ones.

The website was hammered during the sale. It took ages to load the pages, then another 2 pages of confirmation then the payment screen. Luckily I had other pages open otherwise I would have gone mad with the slowness of the website. However I have made bookings to Brighton just because they were on sale. It is a nice place but I did not think I would be back there so soon. I remember there was a 50% sale during the new year and there were no problems booking. 26% off is not too bad but Southern should have prepared for huge number of hits on their website

I couldn't get my 90% off ticket payment through at any time yesterday, it was hopeless. Now the offer has finished, the site's running quickly again and my payment for a ticket with only 26% off went through without a hitch. Funny that! ;) Anyway, it's not all bad. For anyone needing to buy off-peak tickets for Southern Railway services (including off-peak travelcards and some other tickets) the 26% off sale is still a good saving and continues until tomorrow. Thanks to the Rainy Day Guarantee any unused and uncollected tickets can be refunded in full, so it's possible to buy them up to 12 weeks in advance with little risk of wasting any money if a better opportunity comes along or your plans change. Note: The site has a limit of 4 transactions per account per day.

site was too low, and expensive. shame i couldn't get in on it earlier. thanks
