Back in the 20th Century, Channel 4’s innovative slacker comedy written by and starring Jessica Stevenson and Simon Pegg slouched onto TV screens with its hands in its pockets and a bad attitude. But where are its stars now? Surely this bunch of wasters can’t have made anything of themselves, could they?

Back in the day, watching Spaced was a bit like looking into a crystal ball of 21st Century British Comedy. Here’s just a few of the soon-to-be-great-and-good that flopped across the screen like it was a moth-eaten sofa in the two series run.

And on All4. I'd highly recommend this though for anyone who hasn't seen it, it's an absolute slice of fried gold.
I've been kicking myself for years, I could have actually been in Shaun of the dead (my all time favourite film)

Fun fact, in Shaun of the dead most of the zombies in the crowd scenes are actually Spaced fans. I remember on a Spaced chat forum they posted a message asking for fans of the show to come up to London to help with an untitled zombie themed project. I don't remember why I didn't do it in the end, but I didn't, and I regret it so much now.

Also amongst the zombies a couple of times you can see "Tyres" the delivery guy from Spaced. See if you can spot him in the photo below, he's very difficult to identify though

(I'm not sure how to cover up a photo as NSFW, I don't think it's too bad a picture but if any mods think it's inappropriate please just remove the picture from my post, thanks)
One of the best sitcoms of all time.

Well worth a fiver. Guaranteed good quality downloads from Apple and of course no ads.
What is it you do for a living Mike?
If I told you, I'd have to kill you.
Why, is it a secret?
No
I've been hoping for a 20th Anniversary release this year.

Sadly, they don't care that I've been saving up all my 50p's, even though I WAS there at the beginning!!

I'm definitely gonna have to give the series another watch through myself, it's been a few years since I last saw it so I think it's been long enough.

I can probably quote most of the episodes off by heart, lol, but like Shaun of the dead it's one of those shows/films that I could watch over and over again and never get bored of.
Between this and BIG TRAIN is were it all began for Simon pegg. Great program
The phrase 'massively over-rated show' seems oddly insufficient here.

Yep very hard to spot
Properly brilliant.

I remember paying £20 for the first series, On VHS.
Series 2 was my very first DVD.
The little extra in character scene at the end of the "Skip to the End" documentary was as best a closure as I imagine we will ever get.
Thanks @UKJEZZA we have added this to the Highlights section

Another fun fact. They were all paid £1 to do it
BEST PROGRAM EVER

Haha I never realised that. Yet another reason I wish I'd done it, I'd now be one pound better off
Absolutely brilliant TV Show, I tried to get my kids into it but all the references just went over their heads so for them wasn't funny for them, IT Crowd is better for more upto date..

Anyone looking for another funny show try Nathan Barley, highly underrated predicted modern day society amazingly precisely.

Yeah apparently they had to pay them but with their limited budget that’s all they had to give. Everyone loved it. Think Simon Pegg did an interview covering it I’m sure

I haven't ever seen this and I'm 48 so I was old enough to see it first time around. I haven't seen Black Books either.
U all got me curious i have to find it now
Good price but the definitive edition DVD set is probably less at this point. To get the extras its worth it imo.

You are in for a treat with Black Books!
lot of love for this show, can probably quote most episodes entirely.

skip to the end !
Love this show and its off the wall humour. I have it on DVD, but can't resist watching it live when it turns up on tv, never get bored with it. I'm a big film and cult tv buff so the nods to them are a joy for a start, and it has hilarious, witty dialogue, and is full of likeable oddballs. I think it's one of those shows that gets all the characters right, even the smallest ones are great casting.
Spaced and Black Books are so underrated. Fawlty Towers, Only Fools.. and Dad's Army (which I love too) get all the plaudits, but these two shows are rarely acknowledged. If they've passed you by please give them a try.
Got this on dvd. The extras are one of the best reasons to buy discs - geek vision shows all the in references you may have missed.
Reminds me a little bit of Seinfeld. Oddball characters in a dwelling setting. Loved that US, and this classic plus other underated ones Hello Ladies and How Not To Live Your Life.
I enjoyed this although I didn't watch all of them,I liked the guy that was a dealer/cycle courier that was a raver, that was a funny episode watching him trip out when he heard the phone ring and then they went to a club,I had that saved on my old Tivo
That episode was called Epiphanies

Good show, watched it a few times since it first aired. Probably not for everyone, I think it's of it's time and under 20s may not appreciate it. However, can't imagine paying £5 for a digital copy! That's crazy! You could get both series on DVD at any charity shop for 50p. Cold

I watched it recently. Wanted to enjoy it, but felt that it never got going and wasn’t as nerdy or funny as everyone made it out to be. All in all, it was a complete disappointment for me.

I thought Black Books was a bit funnier than Spaced, but didn’t feel that either were deserving of the high praise they each seem to get. Neither are terrible, just not that great.

I really couldn't remember if I was quoting Spaced or The IT Crowd at first, lol. Next question, what's the second rule of Countdown club?

Haha I don't remember them saying the second one. Don't they just say the first rule is "tell as many people about it as it's a really fun game"

Ah yeah you're right. I remembered them saying to tell everyone as it's lots of fun, but of course that doesn't make sense as a second rule if there isn't a first rule, lol.
