As usual, the website appears to fail to tell us the alcoholic strength of the wine....

From memory I think this is 13.5%abv

Nice! Never mind the quality, feet the width!

Can confirm 13.5%

This was posted yesterday, but heat added bargain for a Rioja Reserva.

Very nice wine, and the Rioja Joven from the same supplier is very pleasant for light drinking (summer and or fish/chicken dishes)

I know people love Lidl, but Laithwaites online do far better wine if you're interested.

Mmmmmm Rioja

Why is there no Lidl near me, dammit?!?!?!?!

I just saw 30% in the title and decided to buy. Probably for the best that's the deduction.

I don't think it was if you can remember. I might be confused though, it might be dependent on how many bottles you drink, yes I think it is.

are you sure?

I have wines from Laithwaites / Virgin Wines / et al and it's rather hit and miss TBH

at least with Lidl and Aldi if you stick with the higher end stuff you know you get good quality.

and TBH - do what teh Germans do - keep a glass / corkscreww in the car and if you see something new / interesting buy a bottle - go to the car - have a quick taste (not the whole bottle or even a whole glass for obvious reasons) then go back and buy a case before it's all gone.

I never buy mail order wine now (expect from Naked Wines on special occasions) because if you buy a mixed case there will be 2 or 3 good wines and at lesat 2 really poor wines and the rest will be mediocre

I've got a lot of time for this approach.

They do this brand in 3 different colours of labels and I'm not sounding like a alcho but the cheapest one (cream label) that's £3.99 is far nicer than this one.... They say you leave a bottle of wine for a while to breathe but if honest this stuff tastes like it's for breathing problems !!

Just a tip but the cheaper one

Like it has breathing problems dam iPhone predictive text

Just bought 3 bottles for tonight 2009 vintage, but some on shelf were 2010 vintage, lots left in store Newport, Middlesbrough

Perhaps your drinking it for the wrong reasons

(expecting snootier than tho reply about how one needs to know the exact amount of alcohol in wine and can't accept it might be anywhere between 13 and 14.5%)

Totally agree! Standard Rioja I think. We call it Leper on account of the italic Cepa

Yes I remember or should I say don't remember having a bottle of Bombero last summer to myself and went to sleep watching the sunset in shorts an tee shirt. The next thing I know its 4am and I am freezing cold. When I looked at the label in the morning I saw it was 15% so that's why there is a red line across the label.

A cheap date and easily pleased, and hardy too, if you can drink anything from Tesco for less than a fiver. I'll put the £3.50 towards a bottle from Aldi or Lidl, to be on the safe side- if its all the same to you.

Well, IMO its worth giving a try. Ive had a lot worse from virgin wine & naked wine (hence I joined wine society).
Im a fan of Rijoa (especially Siglo). I originally only bought it as I needed a cheap wine to cook with.
Used 1/2 for cooking & drank the rest & have had quite a few bottles since.

Its cheap because it's bulgarian, so people turn their noses up - while not realising that bulgarian wine was massive in the 80's & declined with the collapse of communism.

I'm confused. If it's Rioja you are talking about then it isn't from Bulgaria. It can't be or it's not Rioja (i.e. which is a region rather than a style/grape). If you are saying there are some good Lidl Bulgarian's then do you have any names you particularly like? IMO both LIDL and Aldi do some good quality/value wines. Aldi's Rioja is particularly nice (though more expensive than this).

This is a good price for a Reserva. You'd be lucky to buy a Tempranillo at this price (which arguably isn't a Rioja anyway)! Gets some heat from me!

1 in every 4 bottles of wine in the uk is sold at tesco. Tesco is an excellent supplier of wines and would recommend the online service to anyone

this is one of the first Riojas I have tasted and if people think this is bad, I'd love to taste a good one.

Very smooth and fruity with that hint of tannin. I thought it was a deal at 5.99. great price now.

Jase99, over 1 in 4 burgers sold in the UK are from Mcdonalds doesn't mean they're going to win any Michelin stars soon does it? We're talking value for money here, £5 bottle of wine from Aldi or Lidl tends to be better quality than a same priced bottle from Tesco.

Ah, now I get it. Tesco's do some good value Bulgarians. Thx for the clarification & suggestions.

I haven't tried it, but a neighbour highly recommends it. She bought 6 bottles yesterday because of offer price. I like Campo Viejo, but will certainly try this one from Lidl. Heat

Tried a glass last night, in the name of research of course, very good with a nice bit of cheese while watching the rugby on TV.
