Still thrice the price of Wilkinsons economy model, which is good enough for 90% of gardeners - and there's plenty around for a tenner that will last a lifetime, if cared for. Nice spade - but you are paying for the name, not the spade.

Screwfix have a spade and fork combo for 20 quid - had a look at it in one of the shops when I was waiting for something and it looked pretty solid to me.

You've all missed the point..this has steel spade linked to a good shaft & handle backed by a sound name.
It's not mega cheap but well worth it cos I got one last year and its served me well so good spot!

Nice one the fork is also available for the same price, so have one reserved. Of course there's cheaper forks but they're cheaper for a reason.

Digging Spade

As opposed to a non-digging spade?

I was thinking exactly the same. It reminded of a pack of 'cooking bacon' I saw in Morrison's. X)

The non-digging spade is £5 cheaper - but equally attractive to snobbish thieves, so don't frame it and hang it at the allotment!

I borrowed my neighbours posh spade at the weekend.... it was like using a hot knife in butter..... definately worth paying more.

What twaddle - as someone greater than you once said "Ye canna break the laws of physics, Jim"

Lets call a spade a spade, and stop pretending S&J are super-spades.

The only way one steel spade is better than another in normal use is in its rust resistance - I'll grant you that a fifty-year-old S&J will likely look prettier than a 50-yr-old Wilkinsons.

So we poor folk have to look after after our spades better than you rich folk. But we can spend the spare tenner on beer. So there

Why did you not just make one thread for the Fork and Spade instead of two seperate threads?
