I REALLLLLLY want this bike.

A special edition of the Raleigh Chopper to commemorate the 75th anniversary of another great British institution, The Beano.

Raleigh and Beano are two British brands that might actually deserve that overused description, iconic.

Based on looks alone, the Raleigh Beano Chopper deserves to be a best seller.

For cyclists of a certain age, the Raleigh Chopper was the coolest bike ever, and the Beano their favourite read. Put them together and you get the Raleigh Beano Chopper.

Mention the Raleigh Chopper to many of our 40-ish year old colleagues, and it's amazing how many of them go all wistful and smiley and say, 'I had one of them. It was brilliant.'

Beano graphics aside, the Raleigh Beano Chopper is recognisably similar to the original, whilst adopting 21st Century technology where appropriate - the aluminium frame is a lot lighter than the original's; the gears are 6-speed Shimano Revoshift; the seatpost is now alloy and micro adjustable; the pedals are BMX resin-style - but you still get ape-hanger bars and authentic red-lined tyres, constructed on the same mould Raleigh used in the 70s, while the famous banana seat now comes in Denis The Menace colours.

Lightweight alloy frame
Shimano 6 speed gears with Revoshifter
Alloy V-brakes and levers
Themed enclosed chainguard and mudguards
Matching 'Dennis the Mennace' style seat
Colour coded alloy rims
Classic 20" rear & 16" front motorbike styled chopper tyres
Alloy kickstand and gear protector

wow so cool!! I used to have a tomahawk bike then a grifter loved them bikes!!!

Cool bike but no 3 speed gear stick in the middle.

that's mint.

Ah paper round memories.....Always trying to be Billy Whizz....usually ended up being Nadgered Nigel.

i might have to cancel the next gen console( not stating which one or fanboys will be all over this thread) to buy this

How do people find bikes2U, good service?

Had one when I was a kid

LOVE this.

Yeah no gear stick not a real Chopper.

'tis sweet!

Had a five speed limited edition (worth a mint now), and before that a smaller version called a chipper.
ahhh memories

No one piece seat, no centre "gearshift", it's just a modern take on an old classic, an expensive one at that, it may look nice, but its not a " proper Chopper".

Nostalgia just isn't what it used to be? Two of the most iconic things about the chopper was the twos-up seat with the back rest so the pillion didn't fall off the back and then the gear shifter on the centre strutt.......that thing in the picture is not a chopper.

Voted hot just because how cool this is.

This would Defo get me laid, right?

I got the mk2 version in about 1973 cost £35

I had a budgie as was a bit small for the chopper so you lot must be older than me.....

not even the seat is like the chopper long seat, they were so comfy them seats!

HUKD Christmas prize I reckon! Put a word in Sy!

Another thing this one hasn't got is the rack over the back mud guard. Also not got the Sturmey Archer 3 speed gears - this one's got a derailleur!!!!

That was more than a weeks wage then for a factory worker which my dad was so I could not afford one but got to ride a neighbors in exchange for old comics and football cards.

I also had a budgie but my mates had tomahawks, then I got a chopper and they got grifters. Like alot of boys my age, I did like my chopper.

What age are you guys salivating at this? Are you trying to capture your youth and imposing this bike on your kids. I still have the MKII from when I was kid, this is pretty expensive and the previous incarnation sell for a lot less second hand on ebay.

To all those bike experts, the changes to the modern chopper were made for health and safety reasons, including the two piece saddle and stick shift

I'm actually surprising myself with how offensive I find this thing, and just to rub salt in look at the heat it's getting......you could get a kid an amazing bike for that money. It's not 'cool', it couldn't get any less cool, it's hideous, not only as a 'replica' (which it isn't) but as a bike too, all amplified by the price. You can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter......or a beano comic it would seem.

Ya mean ex box like ex wife, used to be good but got fat and started farting in bed, so traded it in for a PS phwoar ;p

Why no adults sized one

loved breaking my nuts on the gear leaver when the gears slipped ;-) and you could get 3 kids on easy ...

Cold, not a Chopper.

Not for my health and safety they weren't!

Heat OP

Looking at the two next to each other, it's not a bad copy, but it's still a pale imitation of the original. That gear leaver was magic, and trying to squeeze two people on to the seat was the essential chopper experience.

it's true these things looked cool as a young lad in the 70's but they were heavy as hell to pedal with the fat tyres too!

.... and nobody mentioned the 'ever-ready' ready front lamp mount - 'til now that is X)
