£2000 for a 55" edge-lit LCD?

Grab yourself a Sony XE93 on clearance for £700 less instead.

You do know the XE93 is edge lit right? Don't let the technology type rule your decision.

I think you misunderstood him.

He was essentially saying that the Samsung wasn't worth £700 more, rather than the Sony wasn't edge lit.
never buy a Samsung anything again after their blatant lie about the evolution box for my £2700 55 inch tv ... never get burnt again by these sharks

You do realise this year's QLED range aren't edge lit and feature full on local dimming again don't you?

Well that article is for the 9 series QLED range. The 6 and 7 series are edge lit. So as @Aretak pointed it's £2000 for a edge lit LCD

Yeah. It was, like, entirely my point.

You do realise that the Q7, which is the £2000 model that both the title and I was referring to, is edge-lit, RIGHT? Right mate? Right? Yeah, right? Don't you mate? Don't you? Yeah?

[Q7FN
Screen sizes: 75-inch, 65-inch, 55-inch
4K Resolution TV with edge LED lighting and local dimming.]

Didn't think so.

The Q9F is a full thousand English pounds more expensive if you want your full-array local dimming (or you can pay half that for the Sony XF90, which also has full-array local dimming). Bye, Felicia.

We got a 65" XE9005 at launch around this time last year, paid just over 1800 quid for it rather than the two n half it was going for through the 'partner extravaganza' with staff discount and I can assure you the full on local dimming on it ain't all that so I dread to think what the Sony edge lits are like.

Will this year's Samsung 9 series be any better? I got no idea but it's almost impossible for things to be worse on that front and the first XE9005 got infested with thunder flies too which took months for them to accept the blame as 'not fit for purpose' and get it replaced so Sony really ain't flavour of the month round our neck of the woods.

Nobody is disputing Samsung's better range sets are pricey for what they are but very early initial reception from the tech media for the 2018 QLED's has been positive enough to put me off buying a 55" we been wanting for our bedroom since last year. All of a sudden I may well be prepared to wait till Black Friday or even Spring next year for the 9 series price to drop enough to get one.

Who knows, if the 75" Q9 was to hit a sweet spot we may well be willing to get that for the front room and relegate the 65" XE9005 upstairs to the bedroom instead there's a lot to like about these new QLED's for those of us who remain to be convinced by OLED and are not fans of Lucky Goldstar.
When are they going to reduce the 2017 models? Been waiting on a deal on the 49" Q7 which is the largest size I can fit for bedroom. I notice 55" is smallest in New range. If i could fit a 55" I'd go for OLED
I think there will be deals around the world cup, there is usually some since Football drives sales.
Wow. £6000 for an LCD!

Bought my Panasonic plasma just ahead of the world Cup 8 years ago and its still going strong...just hoping that when it does die that there's decent TV deal out there...don't want to spank out £1300 on a OLED set if I can help it...don't fancy the screen burn 🔥
Has to be OLED at these prices. Cold.

Did you get screen burn on your plasma? Is that why you are concerned about OLED?
