This is what you need to teach any kid to ride a bike. I was struggling with my 5 year old until we took the pedals off and lowered the seat to mimic one of these. He used it like that and eventually (within a few hours) could pick hius feet up and freewheel down a hill. Once they can do that it is a tiny step to riding a bike. This teaches balance, steering and coordination while they feel safe all the time.

I agree, these are really good for teaching children how to ride. We got one like this (wooden frame, no brakes) from Tesco for about £17 about a year and a half ago for our then 2 and bit year old. He then had a pedal bike with stabilisers but they didn't stay on for long and a couple of months before he turned 3 he was riding a pedal bike unassisted!

Even once the kids can ride, these balance bikes are still great fun. I don't think the basic ones are worth £40 though as you can get ones with brakes for about that much.
