I have personally done this a few times. Once you get the hang of it, it won't take more than 1 minute to buy a ticket.

Put a note in your calendar to remind you about the bonus points.

This offer comes up from time to time but on the Nectar app is showing 1000 bonus points (base value £5) with LNER

So if you are looking at a cheap way to earn some Nectar points steps as follows:

  • Go to nectar.com to see if you have the offer. If you have it, then follow the link to visit the LNER website (need to make sure your Nectar card is linked, you can add your nectar card just before payment)

  • Proceed to book a single child fare of £1+ for dates between 18 April and 1 May 2019. Needs to be at least £1 as spend under this amount may cause the bonus points not to track. Please note it has to be a LNER train.

  • As an example Haymarket to Edinburgh child single is £1.25 on Wednesday 24th April 2019 at 11:13, 12:22 , 17:21, etc...

  • Note needs to have the LNER trains symbol next to it and needs to be a LNER train

  • Proceed to book and choose free collection.

FAQ's adapted from previous threads

Which train should I book?
The cheapest ticket I could find was £1.25 for a child from Haymarket to Edinburgh at selected times making a profit of £3.75 worth of nectar points. This needs to have the LNER symbol by it. The LNER trains are at selected times e.g. 11:13, 12:22 , 17:21

Can I book any train between these stations?
Make sure it is definitely a LNER train service you're booking so that you qualify, not a different train operator. Look out for the LNER train symbol

There may be cheaper available journeys between different stations but make sure spend is at least £1 as may cause issues with bonus points

Which website do I book at?
If you are using the suggested journey above use lner.co.uk/

How to avoid postage costs
Select 'Ticket on Departure at the station' and select your local station to collect tickets from to avoid paying postage.

Do I need to collect the tickets?
Has been reported that you don't need to actually collect your tickets but up to you

Does anyone actually get the points from these offers?
Yes has worked for members in the past

When will I get the points
T&Cs below state within 28 days of ending the promo which I make as 17th May 2019

What happens if I don't get the points by then?
Contact nectar customer support who are usually good about adding missing points: nectar.com/con…ct)

Is there a minimum spend?
Not in the T&Cs but it might be £1 to ensure you get at least 1 nectar point for your purchase so that nectar can track the offer.

Stick it in your diary then....

...fight with Nectar for half an hour while they try and defend why they won't give you the points, breach their own terms and conditions and eventually tell you they'll "investigate" for four weeks and get back to you. Which they rarely do. Shower of crooks.
A tenner for a quid lol
Good deal

Haymarket to Edinburgh is literally one stop lol
Train Prices are mad these days but good deal!

I fancy a trip to Glenfinnan Viaduct on the highland train tour myself!

You don't see the 1000 points on the booking - the bonus is applied about 30 days later.
Yes I know thanks that’s how it worked when I got points for booking a train bef
This offer ends today.
I had the offer on my Nectar account , followed the instructions as above but at payment page it says Loyalty rewards aren't available on this transaction, don't understand why

all sorted , as OP had mentioned it must be LNER train.

Points are credited up to 28 days after the end of the promotion according to the T&Cs. Our points should appear by 29th May. No point contacting Nectar before then.

There's a similar Nectar deal now with Virgin trains. It's possible to buy the same £1.25 Haymarket to Edinburgh ticket travelling on a Virgin train (e.g. 12:18 on a weekday). So another easy 1000 Nectar points up for grabs.....
hotukdeals.com/dea…445
Now 29 days since the end of this promotion and no sign of my Nectar points being awarded. I'll be on the live chat tomorrow.....
My 1000 Nectar points appeared in my account today.

My 1000 Nectar points appeared in my account today.

Also got it today
Haha - I got 1000 points added via Nectar live chat yesterday. And the original 1000 bonus points appeared today. Serves them right for breaking the T&Cs, as it took 31 days for the points to come through instead of "within 28 days" as promised!!!

Done 1 a month ago. No sign of any points yet.
Right. Just been on the phone with them, 08000288702. If you ring this number, takes less than 2 minutes and customer service will load the points straight away
Brilliant deal, but I can't seem to find a LNER train for the Haymarket to Edinburgh route. Any further tips appreciated!

Points should be added around 28 days AFTER the promotion ends, not 28 days after you purchase the ticket.
For my last attempt at this offer in April, the points were added automatically 31 days after the promotion ended, though I had already got them added via Live Chat the day before (so I got 2000 points for £1.25 spend).
If you're lucky, you'll still get the original 1000 points eventually.
I'm about to enter the latest LNER promo for another 1000 points, the promo ends tomorrow, so I expect the points to be added around July 10th.
