Overpriced and over rated.

You are confusing the importance of your rating with the consensus so from that perspective you show poor judgement.
But as it's all subjective anyway why care at all how anyone else rates it?
You enjoy it or you don't, that's all that matters.

Completely agree Princess Mononoke is just brilliant.. as is Laputa.

This is the 1st film I watched from SG and I will always remember this. Easily one one of my top 10. Thanks for posting this looks like its time for a re-watch

Overpriced and over rated. Even Ponyo is better.

It was depressing yes but beautiful, Spirited Away just felt creepy disturbing.

I knew someone would bring that up though.

The fact that the children are dead and have passed to the spirit world in Totoro never disturbed you?

So there you have it, people will always have opinions. It's ok to explain why you have yours, but don't try and tell others why they shouldn't have theirs.

M.A.S.S.I.V.E 8.6 rating on IMDB imdb.com/tit…29/ , blows most movies out of the water in terms of popularity.

But I STILL thought it was cr*p. Honestly, what was ALL the fuss about? What am I NOT seeing?

Spirited Away is just well rated because Jonathan Ross popularised it. It's not a great film and it is widely known the story was significantly altered part of the way through production because with the original plan it was going to be far too long. That's why it goes off on a weird tangent halfway through and the ending is rushed. The world is interesting and the initial world building is decent but it loses direction and coherence.

Nausicaa, Laputa and Mononoke are much better. Grave of the Fireflies is fantastic but as others have said, it is genuinely sad and not what most people would expect from a Ghibli branded film.

Love this film. So strange and hauntingly beautiful. It is never going to be mainstream.

I've watched Totoro with my little one several times and wasn't aware of this interpretation, from a quick Google it seems to be a fan theory which has been refuted by the studio.
Major heat OP Spirited Away is an unusual film admittedly and, although I can see how some scenes/aspects could be disturbing, neither me nor my little one ever were (she first watched it when she'd just turned 4 and will soon be 6). It's rare for her to watch anything more than once (I know I'm incredibly lucky with that!) and for her Spirited is second only to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, another Miyazaki/Ghibli.

I wish they did a SG complete boxset at a reasonable price.

I've most of their films on DVD but would upgrade if such a boxset existed.

It was never stated they were dead and it was done totally different than Spirtied Away, either way why challenge my opinion?

I studied film and media at university and did a A level in childrens literature too, I am aware of a lot of hidden meanings.

Are you aware of the hidden meanings in a film like Labyrinth like suspected child abuse, or a girls sexual awakening to an older man?

No.

This is the only anime Ive seen but my 3 year old boy loves it, its the only film he will watch from beginning to end ( I skip the pigs being whipped and when the monster eats people). Im waiting on a good price for totoro, which SC film do you recommend thats ok for children?

Definitely Totoro, maybe Ponyo , Kikis Delivery Service and Howls Moving Castle. For a child that age probably wouldn't recommend anything else by Studio Ghibli. Others might get a but creepy in places or not enough to keep a child's attention.

Theres also The Cat Returns (U rated) that might keep a childs attention if they like cats. It also ties in with another later Ghibli movie, Whispers of the Heart but i don't think a kid would enjoy that the same.

Good price for this

Howl's Moving Castle is by far my favourite of these though, Spirited Away got people a little carried away, felt like overdue recognition for their earlier, superior films

I think a lot of it is because at the time anime was still very niche, prior to that you had Akira and Ghost in the Shell and thats about as "mainstream" that anime ever got. Even those you had to get from tape traders.

Spirited Away help put a bigger spotlight on anime in general and most people seeing it probably would of never seen anything like that. But yeah overdue recognition may of been a case, hell Ghibli had like 12 films before Spirited Away.

The Ghibli stuff, especially by Miyazaki, is like Disney movies of old were they had that "magic" to em. But Disneys a shadow of itself now , though some recent ones are good they don't have the same feel as the old stuff. And i find you get that feel with Anime more than any other genre now.

This film ,aswell as pretty much everything anime on bluray, holds its value well. Always in demand. This film is usually around £13-£15. Maybe 2 for £25. If you sold it on eBay youd probably get about a tenner 2nd hand. Make sure to keep the slipcover if it comes with one! Important for collectors, makes it more desirable

Fantastic film, dropped on the vhs years ago in a "bargain bin" somewhere, my girls love it. This, howls moving castle and arrietty are amongst their favourite bedtime films.

Heat added, purely because it's a classic

But tbf pal, an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I like the set, but not being a hardcore collector, I couldn't justify paying that much myself for a few cartoons (sorry, i mean anime films).

However, I've seen some star wars merch go for a hell of a lot more.
