No target was safe from the series' gunsights: politicians of all persuasions, Ronald Reagan, the Pope and even the Royal Family could find themselves up for a ribbing on any given programme. Series One included the ongoing shenanigans of Ronald Reagan's administration in "The President's Brain is Missing", Thatcher trying to convince Robin Day of the benefits of cannibalism and Neil Kinnock pondering an offer to appear on "The Tube"! Exceptionally topical, this complete first series featured the talents of Chris Barrie, Steve Nallon, Chris Emmett, John Glover, Phil Cool and Ade Edmondson.

Was a great show. I actully remeber last year being at the southgate auction and saw a few masks from the actual show for sale. If i remeber correctly they went for peanuts in the end.

Wouldn't work now as there is no deference to authority figures. Back in the 80's there was to a degree and what was shocking then is probably very tame now.

I bought The Day Today for a fiver and only watched 10 minutes of it.

I'd like to grab a full set of this though, just for posterity.

I haven't a clue who is the cabinet now, because of this and the comedy scene of the time I knew them all. Useless bunch of tossers that they were.

I wouldn't say there was any more deference, it's just that people knew who politicians were. Since Blair's megalomaniacal presidential-style premiership we've been conditioned to ignore the cabinet.

The complete box set is due for release in November. Amazon seems to be the cheapest at the moment.

I'm tempted myself, but worried that it would have dated. Saying that, I've got Santa Claus is on the Dole, I've Never met a nice South African and the The Chicken Song on my iphone.....

"And what about vegetables?"

"Oh, they'll have steak too!"
