Cold. It's not worth paying a penny at the moment, with its dodgy DRM issues. Avoid at all costs.

Voting cold. For whatever price you essentially only get to hire this game thanks to the dodgy DRM. And £25 for a hire of a game is too expensive for my liking.

Tell EA to stuff this new DRM plan of theirs the only way we can, refuse to buy the game.

And absurdly for all their copy protection, it was still cracked and available to download from pirates before it was even officially released.

Roll on the wii version.

This was marked as £34.99 in our local Gamestation this morning. What is the issue with the DRM as my kids really want this game and I was planning to get it tomorrow for them?

I'm not certain (I'm sure someone here will be able to explain better than me) but I think the game only lets you install 3 times before becoming a coaster.

Basically:
- Maxis authenticate your game online when you install and launch it the first time
- They re-authenticate when a player uses online features, downloads new content or a patch for their game
- The new system means you don't have to play with the disc in your computer
- Only 3 installs are allowed before your "key" becomes invalid and you have to ask them for another installation

That sounds pretty reasonable to me.

It means you can't sell it secondhand for one thing.

DRM = total rip off, only penalising genuine customers. The pirates had this game cracked and all over the net before release!!

tbh its a good price for good game, i like it although im finding the space age a bit of a pain, i personally can live with the drm and cant see why it would ever bother me.

What about when you need to re install Windows if you have a crash or upgrade the PC, or even want to play at a later date but had to uninstall the game to claim back space. If you bought the game its yours not EAs!!.

Not to mention the havok the DRM software plays with you drivers. Ever wonder why all of a sudden your PC keeps crashing or the DVD writer is playing up....?

As an anti piracy measure its flawed as the crack was out even before the release. So the only people to suffer are the ones that have paid for it.

Presumably that's why they allow you to install and register it 3 times, I can't see anyone upgrading/rebuilding their machine more than that, you can always ring them and get another one anyway.

XP needs to be reinstalled every now and then to keep it running well, it gets clogged up and slows down massively after a while. Also I had to reinstall XP a couple of times in the past (aside from the clean out), once due to a software error and once due to a PC upgrade.. that's far more than 3 times.

Why should we have to contact EA just to reinstall a game? As stated these rubbish security measures only hurt the legitimate people who buy the game.

i have a silly amount of space in raid 1,0 so as i said its never really going to bother me, could be pain if it does require a re-reg if i upgrade somthing.

and tbh its never yet crashed while playing spore (only twice playing stalker but i very doubt its spores fault)

Can I install it on 2 different PCs? or only 1 PC 3 times? Both my sons want to play it but I don't want to buy it twice.

It also comes with Securom. Which they swear can't damage your system, but my DVD-rewriter packed up just after I bought and started playing my first EA game that had Securom on it.

Securom which copies a rootkit to your PC that you can't uninstall.

Impossible to prove that Securom knackered by DVD drive, but it was 8 months old and worked perfectly up until Securom came along, then instantly, broken.

These rootkit DRMs are akin to certain viruses in the way they operate. They slow down your PC, and frequently cause driver conflicts.

I will never knowingly infect my PC by buying one of these games that are protected in this way. If enough people feel the same way, EA will feel the pain in their wallet

I know of NO game that has not been cracked by the pirates, and often within a week of release (if not before). So what does all this achieve? It hurts legitimate customers.

Stardock software by comparison a wonderful company, who I would happily support by buying their games. They have no anti copying **** on their software eg. Galactic Civilisations 2. The game is wonderful, their free upgrades are amazing, and their customer support second to none. That's how it should be done.

It also means that you can only have 1 account for each CD key, contrary to the instruction manual. So if you have more than 1 kid, they won;t both be able to have a seperate account unless you buy more than 1 copy.

Not good

DRM issues aside, the game is total turd.

Only good for kids.

Cant believe I wasted £22 on it.

Check out the Spore customer reviews on Amazon...... mostly 1/5

Did you catch the fuss on Amazon? They were deleting all of the negative reviews of Spore, and only putting up the good ones. Apparently there are 2000 or so 1-star reviews that mysteriously disappeared from the Amazon website...

No, but I did read the discussion on the subject. Hopefully Spore will turn out to be most pirated and worst selling game ever. EA should learn from this fiasco, as it's putting off thousands of potential customers from buying.
