Sprats! Sprats! Sprats!

Little tasty fish - FRESH FISH - very cheap!

The great thing about these little things is that you don't even have to prepare them - you don't have to bone, de-scale, gut or anything! Just pop in a pan and fry as they are, then eat whole, head, tail and everything! Perfect for the lazy or the very busy who still want their Omega 3!

The bones are small and soft, it's a lot like eating sardines - in fact, sprats are often mistaken for sardines. (the sprats are about 4 inches long, 5 if you count the tail - mmm, nice and crispy tail!)

Also, forgot to mention: although they're available at the fish counter to your desired weight, they also have them (at least at my local Morrisons in SE London) pre-packaged cling-film wrapped on the usual styrofoam trays - saves you time queuing up and getting it bagged and priced.

Do you think they gut sardines before tinning them?
Good deal, just a bunch of ignoramuses voting cold.
Jack Fat could eat no sprat,
his wife couldn't eat sardines,
and so between the two of them,
they gave this particular deal a miss.

See, this is why I don't bother posting deals, really...
This is what HUKD has become, where a joke post about a £1250 suit of armour will get to over 1000 degrees, but a decent, real deal like this will go cold because...? I don't even know...

Precisely.
In Spain they eat tons of these little fish - they're fried in a light batter and served with lemon and/or alioli. Delicious boquerones.

I like my fish filleted, served with pea and mint velouté on a warm porcelain plate accompanied by a nice glass of 2007 Corton Charlemagne.

You like small whole fish. Cheap ones. You're weird.

I believe they prefer adult contemporary to pop, so pretty mature...

They're fully grown, I believe - like I said, they're around 5 inches long.
I picked up a packet on Friday. They are quite a big size. I like whitebait and eat them whole but I did cut these heads off - just seemed a bit too big. A good deal, great price, we should all eat more fish like this :-)

Heck, I love grilled rainbow trout or Chilean sea bass with a nice Pinot Grigio, but those fish cost 4-10 times as much! This is a cheap deal, selected for simple nutritional value, nothing fancy!

OK, so if that's your position, buy them and feed them to cats if you so choose, it still makes it a decent deal, but don't vote cold just because it's not fancy enough.

Just because something is cheap, doesn't make it a deal. Do you want to buy some of my underwear? 20p.

That's right, in order for it to be a deal, it has to be cheaper than everywhere else (see chesterdraws' helpful pic above) AND it has to have some value to a broad range of people. I'll venture to wager that your underpants do not have such appeal.

Therefore this = DEAL
use them on canal river pikeing

I bought a pack for 60p and there was enough for two meals in it.

Just take the head off and a thin slice off the belly of the fish and the innards will come out. Grill or fry them and they're nice. Bit like a cross between mackerel and herring.

Hot from me.
great deal OP heat and heads up. Small fish is the best good source of omega 3, calcium and phospherous. I love whole sardines as well - but the guts removed. These fish like anchovies doesnt nead the guts removed. People who hate tiny whole fish- Do you eat your prawn with gut removed?
Heat from me:).....,reading some of these comments is pathetic.
For anyone who wants to try these but doesn't fancy eating them whole, once they're cooked they're very quick and easy to fillet - just run your knife along the underside, open out the two halves then just pull out the bone, and the head and tail will come with it.
Slightly off-topic, it's a shame that whitebait seem so difficult to get hold of outside restaurants.

Anyone know a regular source?
