Springbank 15 Year Old Single Malt Whisky (Campbeltown) £62.95 @ Masters Of Malt
Posted 14th Aug 2020

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Springbank 15 is one for more experienced whisky drinkers. A very distinctive, leathery smoke Campbeltown whisky.

Not listed as a 'deal' on the Master of Malt website, but one of those whiskies with limited availability. Currently listed as £75 on Amazon, so why not pay less for a very well respected single malt whisky from a UK based retailer?

Short summary review:

Note: Ignore the difference in label, this was changed recently, no change to contents.

For free postage you could also pair with the excellent deal on the Benromach Cask Strength:

£59.95 with £5.95 postage at royal mile whiskies, which works out slightly cheaper. Springbank has just started releasing more whisky after lockdown so should start to see some more availability. Quality stuff the 15 year old. Would highly recommend. The 10 is great too as is pretty much everything they do
I can't vote either way as I've not tried it and, although I do like a malt or two, unfortunately I wouldn't class myself as a 'more experienced whisky drinker', so I'll give this Springbank a miss I think!

Completely understandable, I wasn't meaning to be snobbish with my comment, just there are flavours here which might put off those starting out on their whisky journey.

Oh yeah, I've noticed your suggestion now!

I was so excited I didn't read on after the title!
Damn it would have ordered this with the Benromach. Oh well...

In fairness: the Springbank wasn't on the same flash sale page, just my force of habit checking certain whiskies every time I revisit a whisky websites.
Had to give this a go after watching the review . Not spent this much before on a single bottle. Should be fun.

Taste is such a subjective thing and I really hope you like this, fortunately you quoted the review, which means that it's not my fault if you don't

Even if you don't like this then you should at least find it interesting. As I have gone through my whisky journey I have become less interested in good, but forgettable / boring whiskies. I like whiskies which challenge me.

PS. Please ping me a message, or post another reply, with your thoughts after you try it.

Will do Rob. There is no turning back on the whisky journey, too far into it.
Have the 12 cask strength open at the moment. I love Springbank. Everything done onsite.

They were good enough to add it on with the free delivery 😁
Yes, there's very rarely any decent discounts on Springbank...I did try to get this one a couple of years back, but there were none left on the shelf in the Booths my friend visited

To those of us who love Springbank: that was a shmokin' hot deal, but I fully understand that this isn't for everyone.

However: there has been a lot of exploitation on whisky prices over this last few years and I still think that Springbank have kept their prices fairly reasonable, considering the quality.
One of the top whisky for the price.

Springbank are a wonderful independant distillers. Not bought down by the likes of Diagio.

Ive been to their distillery a few times in Campbeltown. Run by true locals who take real pride in what the produce and their process.

One of the only distilleries to still do 100% of the entire process on site. Its fantastic and it lets them control every aspect of the quality.

I can also recommend their others if you havent tried them; Hazelburn (unpeated) and Longrow (peated).

Enjoy.
Now sold out
Some malt this. God bless Springbank for the quality of the whisky they put out. The Scotch mist when you add some water is amazing. Worth every penny. Twice the price of Glenfiddich 15 and definitely more than twice the whisky.

How did you get on with this??
Been taking my time with it. Smooth and nicely balanced, sherry on the nose, with a complexed taste including salt old wood. No peat though which surprised me. Very long sweet finish. Pineapple and other tropical fruit flavours. I will have to wait a while before I finish the bottle before deciding if to buy again. It is the most expensive whisky I have bought (to date that is). Open to recommendations.

I do struggle to pick out individual flavours, for me I have always found it to be leathery and musty. It always makes me think of smelling one's own sweaty armpits, immediately thinking 'that stinks' but being drawn to go back for another whiff.

I gave the Springbank to some friends recently: they both enjoyed the smell, then one said 'peated' and the other immediately said that he didn't like peated whiskies and that was all he could taste from then on.

If you are liking the Springbank then maybe have a look at Kilkerran 12 - another Campbeltown malt with a similarish flavour profile. Should be £35-40 (not Amazon).
Cheers for that, I will track it down. Maybe see if Ralphy is reviewing it.

I wouldn't recommend a whisky without Ralfy to back me up
Very educational review. Wonderful. I have passed it on to my son.
