So I have been looking for a reasonably priced mountain bike. I am no expert on bikes, I've basically been going off what looks the nicest. Was looking at up to £800 tops, or maybe up to £1000 if I can use cycle scheme, but that really is top of the scale. Ideally I only want to spend around £600. Looked at used, and eBay, and have just stumbled across this. Firstly, like most, I am not a fan of Sports Direct but this deal looks very good - I can't find anything with this spec for the price. Although I know nothing, my friend is into his bikes big time, and has told me the brands to go for (shimano, sram, fox, rockshox etc). Anyway, maybe this is a great deal, maybe it's not. I've tried to find some info on Spyder, but all I can find is (very expensive) skiwear. If anyone has any alternatives to this or advice that too would be appreciated...

I can only assume that Spyder have gone bust.
Wouldn't trust SD with that amount

Doesn't look like. They were acquired a few years back, but looks like they're still trading, and a very high end skiwear brand (£500+ jackets). Cant find much info on them though, and definitely not the full spec of bike...
Looking at the Spec it seems very good value for money.

Type in 'Spyder instinct review' into google and see what the consensus is on the bike.
no way this spec would command a grand, its a hard tail mid spec and should bottom out around 500 anyways, MA is certainly trying aint he!
Look at it this way , there are no reviews on it, doesn't mention the make of dropper , frame wise you don't know how it's gonna ride or feel, go into a bike shop try the bikes and get a feel for what u like, main thing is don't rush into things , there's always a deal around the corner .

Agreed, that spec is worth 500 max. MA makes his RRP's up anyway.
Plus it's got reflectors on it that says all you need to know

Seconding this. The most important thing is to sit on the bike. I bought a crazy good 60% off deal but in the end hated it because it was too short for me.
Good components on it.
very good components, worth a punt

That £605,000,000 tax bill ain’t going to pay itself...
Not a bad spec for the current price, but no way worth 1k. The better spec is on the cheaper parts like rear derailliure and chainset, its cheaper lower end brakes (but functional), lower end fork (way better that the suntour options, but not mid range or high end), the dropper is a nice inclusion (no brand but likely to be something generic possibly like the cheap but excellent Chain Reaction ones), wheels will be cheap rims on decent hubs.

Not sure who Spyder are or were so not sure on the build quality or frame.

I think its good value, but you are relying on a business with a bad reputation and not cycle specialists.

Right now its sale season as shops get in the 2020 models, so worth holding out, but you would do well to get the same spec for that price.

Is it not the law to sell any bike with reflectors? Part of getting a new bike is removing them and the dork disc
Good components but an unknown quantity in the frame etc.
Wouldn't risk it.
Voodoo Bizango can be had at this money when on sale and is a very well known frame, good geometry and reliable bike.
At £400 it would be a big bargain and at £450-500 worth considering but close to £600 seems about normal price I would of thought for the overall package. Also Sports Direct is a bit of a gamble support wise, they are pretty much a box shifter so I always lower the price I'm prepared to pay there because of that. Any setting up of the bike you do yourself and any minor issues you will just have to live with, scratches from delivery etc.
Can't tell if this has an air or coil sprung fork. Asked Sports Direct, they couldn't tell tell me.
