SSE get reasonable ratings. I joined a short while ago.

interesting, have some heat.
I've had this package 6 months now, and its OK, although highly throttled in the evenings, torrents are nigh on impossible to download without a VPN.

BT were a lot more expensive, but they were loads faster on the same 78mb fiber product.
My contract with Talktalk finishes next month and I have been looking at alternatives(no problems with Talktalk during the 2 and a half years I have been with them). This offer is not available in my location but is available at my moms house so it is a genuine offer but not available to everyone. I may try to phone them to see if it will be available for me soon. Voted hot.
£60.60 cashback with TCB.
There is catch or even more then one. I have them almost a year and can't wait when I finish.
Firsts if you lucky you might get connection on time if they l3t you know that you connected. I was waiting 2 months to get. Customers services always saying something different every time you call them and you have to call they don't even they have a problem with keeping on time with setting up.
Router need reset with modem in weekly basis or you will have a speed. And peak times are very bad. Have this line with Plusnet for 2 years always what it should be.

Difficult to navigate the website, very slow, times out and errors and this broadband option is almost hidden but - super hot deal, no cashback to worry about, seems straight forward. Could be a price glitch as the breakdown doesn't actually add up.

FULL-PRICE MONTHLY COST BREAKDOWN:Incl. VAT at 20%. 18 month contract … FULL-PRICE MONTHLY COST BREAKDOWN:Incl. VAT at 20%. 18 month contract (Talk), 18 month contract (Broadband)£5.00 call bundle, £25.00 broadband and £16.00 line rental per month. It's an 18-month fixed term contract for both the broadband and phone services. Paper bills will cost £1 per month extra. Some call features will also come at an additional cost – please read Talk Contract 15: Products and prices from 17 September 2015.

It's up to 76mb not 78 as the OP states and the true speed will be less, I assume they will give you a more accurate speed during signup process.

As with all broadband providers you just have to hope for the best with no complications when they set you up that require calling customer services.
Stay clear of SSE if you value your sanity. The number of problems we've had and although their customer services team seem nice, they never get it right.

Bought works fine for last 12 months. Evenings do slow down speeds a little.
Does anyone who has transferred to them from BT know how long it takes ?

My BT contract is up on 1st June, and I want to sign up - but if I sign up too early and the transfer goes ahead early BT have already said they will charge me £75 penalty. If I wait too long though I will end up paying BT at a sky high rate when my contract runs out....
I also can't wait to leave SSE. Signed up for 76mb fibre but expected closer to 60mb as this is what the line achieved with Sky & BT who I had been with previously. Best SSE can manage is 40mb but often during the evenings it is FAR worse. Numerous speed tests have shown speeds under 0.5mb!!!

If you don't want to use the service at peak times or are not fussed about the speed of your internet then it's cheap and cheerful. If you want to use your broadband in the evening then walk away and find another deal, trust me it may cost a bit more but it'll be worth it
Transfer starts after 3 weeks and hopefully end in 2 months

As OP, I think it's only fair to say, after reading the comments that is, I'm cancelling this as I need good speeds at all times.
Read a few reviews and no one mentioned throttling so should have read more!!!
But for a cheap deal, it is well worth it.
Don't forget that Quidco are offering £130 max on the best package.
My Talktalk contact is up next month so I'm looking at many options.
I have their non-fibre deal and am happy enough with it. True, the connection was a fraught process but I'd blame BT for the worst of it. I can't say I've seen any evidence of throttling and was assured by them that they don't when I was was signing up. Maybe fibre is different. Much cheaper than anyone else i found and had no issues in the near-year I've been with them.
£136 TCB cashback too. Rude not too.

That would make it £13 ish a month. Thats pretty amazing.
What's this like when using with a Kodi box or Fire TV Stick?
Bt price rises soon so can get out of contracts, this seems mega cheap what's the catch

They traffic shape so I wouldn't recommend SSE.
Stick with Plusnet people. Zero slowdowns for me even though I download upwards of 3TB each month with a personal best of 5TB last month

If it's anything like their standard ADSL it will be highly throttled. I'm currently on it. With O2 I used to get 11Mbs down and 1.1Mbs up. With SSE it's 8Mbs down and 0.5Mbs up. Not really suitable for gaming since ping tests have doubled!

I wouldn't know though when hunting around for Fibre, I would never opt for an ISP who traffic shapes over others who don't. You get what you pay for sometimes.

Though I see you've opted for Virgin (which is reasonable in areas where there are slow speeds via standard FTTC), so I would go with whatever is more cost-effective.

That's a lot of Blu Rays.
been with sse since their last deal, and touch wood it's been good, a bit of traffic shaping, nothing major. get 76MB down myself, and cashback was paid out as well.

Is Plusnet good with VPNs as well?

No. I can say that Plusnet staff for the most part know what they're doing.
I had a BT 'engineer' out not long ago. He was absolutely clueless. I had to tell him what to do. Useless.
The problem seemed to sort itself on my end at some point when BT was booked to come out and when he arrived so tests came back fine when no work was carried out. Rang Plusnet and they sorted everything out on their end within minutes. Can't fault them.
They even let you use your own router.

Absolutely fine.
I'm using Private Internet Access and the majority of that traffic was via the VPN.
