No surprise this deal has been voted down by all the green eyed monsters who accuse others of the things they themselves are guilty of. (_;)

Well I've voted it hot OP but on here its going to sink because you mentioned the B word and all the tory types on here who've never had to claim benefits in their lives hate people who do because the TV told them too.

The SSE's exciting new project, the Free Appliance Scheme, provides A-rated appliances to eligible customers. It will offer free delivery, uplift and installation of the appliance. This scheme is only available to SSE customers - please see eligibility criteria detailed below.

The scheme is administered by Charis Grants and funded through the Warm Home Discount Scheme. Application numbers are limited and therefore it will be available on a first come first served basis and restricted to one appliance per household.

    Some points to consider:

Applicants must be on supply with SSE
Applicants will need to provide the height, depth and width of the space available for the appliance
SSE will install appliances only where safe to do so, this includes gas cookers which will be fitted by a Gas Safe Engineer
Appliances will be delivered free of charge but missed delivery appointments may be charged
Appliances to be uplifted should be disconnected and ready to be collected, fridges and freezers should be defrosted
Built in appliances are not provided

    whats the "deal"

wow, this thread was pruned very quickly. anyway, heated from me as it could certainly help a lot of people.
Looking at the terms of eligibility they are basically mainly for people that are disabled, but also in some cases the elderly and those with small children. So, essentially, those that need help most - especially as disability benefits have been cut. Really can't see a problem with this.

This is the killer, I think, SSE are probably not the most economical energy supplier. People can save hundreds of pounds (usually) by choosing the most economical.
For people on a low income/retired/disabled it's probably worth looking here

Not voting on this. But I'm pretty annoyed at this.

What's next? Our taxes are going towards to pay for peoples 55inch tv's, ipods, and phones.

My taxes went towards the '*WARM* home discount scheme' to pay for someones electricity so they didn't have to worry aboout dialling up the heating so they wouldn't die or fall ill from the cold. Now it's going towards paying for someone's fridge/cooker!

Even if it goes towards replacing an existing appliance, how much electricity are they going to save. I found the difference saved on electricity between anything bought in the last 10-20 years can be only around £10-£30 a year.

All relative isn't it. Why would they be bothered that it wasn't the cheapest supplier if they weren't working hard for the money to pay the bill.
Most will be thinking, does this mean I can upgrade my 50 inch flat screen to a 65.
People will save a lot more every year going with a cheaper energy supplier than what it costs to have a fridge or cooker replaced, assuming it's a basic appliance supplied and not a top of the range model.
I would imagine schemes like this are just created to lower the tax bills of the billion pound energy companies more so than helping out people.
But even so its yet another 'if your on benefits have this free' promotion.
Thanks OP, without this deal I wouldn't have got a free electric cooker coming next week via delivery.

As a so-called 'moderator', you of all people should know that, whatever this is, it certainly isn't a deal!

Move it to freebies or miscellaneous or somewhere sensible.

Its not a freebie as you have to be a customer with that company tho so in a way you are paying for it, not a freebie but an incentive to those eligible to be with that supplier

So what your saying is that this is a freebie that you pay for! And it's not free because you have to be a customer to get it free.
    Nice logic.

    Why is this expired?
someone needs to relook into this and unexpire it, some may be missing out. A little more clarification on the steps in a post would be great....
This post is only cold and expired because of the hate for people on benefits. Typical right wing society we live in...
