I've just rung my local (Chester) Staples store to check stock of the HP 364XL ink cartridge.
The cheapest that I can find on the web is £13.94 inc VAT.
The deal that Staples are offering allows you to take (up to) 5 empty / used cartridges and receive (up to) £10 discount for each new 364XL bought.
This brings a £15.99 cartridge down to an impressive £5.99!
The very informative man that I spoke to told me that they can do (up to) 5 individual deals, each saving £10 for each batch of 5 empty cartridges received.

He was quite specific in saying that the empty cartridges MUST BE GENUINE HP CARTRIDGES and that REMANUFACTURED CARTRIDGES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

The deal is on ALL HP cartridges (not just the 364 or 364XL).

I have noticed that the store prices seem to be higher than their online prices so I suggest that you contact your local store to check stock and prices before you set off to avoid any wasted journeys.

I'm not sure how long that this offer is on for but I'll find out and post an update.

If anybody intends to go to the Chester store, please wait a short while until I've had a chance to get there!!

I have a HP printer and need to buy these cartridges.

I've tried the 'lookalikes' and they're useless as each cartridge has a microchip and if it's even 1mm out it won't work.

Perhaps you can post a lower priced deal that has the benefit of recycling old cartridges . . . . ?

Sorry Bill, I was just pulling your leg - though I still don't expect that there will be massive queues for this offer

The price of printer cartridges in general is ridiculous - it's sometimes cheaper to buy a new printer! One of the reasons I always buy Epson is because the generic cartridges are great quality (with chips) and work most of the time (about £8 for 20 cartridges, vs £10 for a single official one). I started buying them when I had a faulty cartridge from Epson which they wouldn't replace until after it had been tested in their labs (taking a couple of weeks!) - so it was quicker to buy from ebay.

I have tried the same thing (buying off ebay) and come unstuck.
The chipped cartridges worked intermittently and drove us all mad.
We bought this machine because the 3 of us all have iphones and ipads and macs and can print wirelessly and effortlessly to this printer (we can even send it an email from anywhere in the world and it'll print that too!).
Tesco usually have pretty good prices for remanufactured stuff, but the Staples deal is the best that I can find assuming that you've got old cartridges to chop in at £2 a time.
I would've thought that 401error would've posted this deal (I don't think that anybody else has).
Anyway, we've bought 2 x 364XL cartridges and saved £20 and we're happy.
Cheers

In fairness, if you simply take advantage of this offer to return cartridges that you have already bought, then it's not a bad idea. Just don't get suckered into buying extra cartridges from Staples. In general they are more expensive than other places. Buy your cartridges elsewhere for a couple of quid less each, then use the Staples recycling scheme to return those cartridges and save extra.
