I have passed this place often & curiosity/very favourable press reviews got the better of me, so gave it a try.

It was brilliant (deal takes you to one of the newspaper reviews agreeing).

Everything was homemade, & tasted great. Prices listed are for all three courses.

Star Bar food menu

STARTERS
Home-made Soup
or
Fruit Juice

MAIN COURSE
Scotch Pie ..............................£3
Sausage Hot Pot .....................£3
Roast Beef ..............................£3
Smoked Ham ..........................£3
Roast Turkey ..........................£3
Macaroni Cheese ....................£3

Scottish Prime Beef Mince..........(£3.50)
Ashet Pie .................................(£3.50) This is steak pie.

Now also available, specials for £4. So far I have had chicken stew, beef stew, & peppered steak & all were really good. Its one special each day, there is not a choice of them.

The above dishes are served with French Fries and Salad or, if you prefer, Boiled Potatoes and Gravy.

Dessert

Creamed Rice, or Jelly with Fruit, with Carnation Milk.

I've passed this and I was curious but it looks rather rough to be honest.

I work just a long the road from here and have never been myself but a few of the guys say its great deal and good food :-)

Its full of bus drivers as its near the depot,
Ive passed it but never been in

This is expensive by Glaswegian standards.......

Yeah and we wear kilts and have yet to be plugged into the national grid

Seriously? We're passed that stage in the east of Scotland

The last time I was there it was £1.00

The Horseshoe Bar uptown was £1.00 as well.

Not a bad little pub on the Southside.

You can then head up the road to Shawlands and get a pint of Peroni for a fiver.

I'm English, would I be safe in this place?

I agree. It's not the sort of place I would go into either.

I prefer to eat in places that don't "pay" tax. You don't really think it's them paying the tax do you?

If it bothers you that Starbucks or whoever don't pay a lot of tax in Britain, just send a quid to the treasury every time you buy a coffee (don't worry, they'll take it). That will work out the same as Starbucks charging you more to pay more in tax.

They are right next to each other.

Yeah, cos it really costs them £3 to make a coffee. But hell, if I'd found customers that dumb I'd fleece them too. Having politicians that help you is just the icing on the cake.

I think you might be missing the bit about a competitive market..... Their prices have to be competitive in the marketplace. More tax might not mean higher prices, it could just mean lower profits.

But starbucks don't make a profit in the UK, they are only rapidly expanding out of the goodness of their hearts!

I'm a regular in the star bar and comments like those say more about yourselves than the pub.It might look rough to you but to us it's a friendly family run pub
You clowns !!

There's a reason it's only £2.50.... bogging pub inside and out!

I live near this place...its beside larkfield bus depot which I'm sure inspires the highest standards of culinary excellence...spice burgers, deep fried battered pizza and stool en croute...all the good ****

Well maybe we are from a better area than where this place is situated. It's run down and it is a dump.

There's a starbar in edinburgh as well - not sure if it's linked to this one - anyone know if the deal is on there as well?
