Star Citizen (PC) Free Fly event for 1 week

FREE£43.20

Refreshed 28th Oct (Posted 28th Oct)

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

RSI are having a free fly event, so anyone can try out the Alpha test version of the game for 1 week, from 3pm GMT on 28.10.19 to 02.11.19.
robertsspaceindustries.com/enlist
Fly about space, mine materials via your mining ship or by hand in caves, fight pirates, clear out NPC's or try one of hundreds of different contract missions or bounties.

There's always something to do on Star Citizen.

If you're going to buy I'd recommend the Mustang Alpha (assuming they still do it) starter as you currently get the Aurora free for a limited time (due to an issue with not being able to complete one of the missions in the Mustang!)

I'd also recommend newcomers checkout a 3.7 tutorial which briefly covers everything you need to know to get going. I found this one very useful although you will get prompts on screen for basic controls - top tip, DONT touch your mouse when you get in the pilots seat until you're in the air, you'll inadvertently move the stick about and likely end up upside down on takeoff or worse!

it's a free trial, what money?

The game has been in development since the time of the French Revolution, and has made millions in the process. Yet is still only an Alpha build.
Even the free event for this game gets delayed
4500k hours in Elite: Dangerous. Still not tempted to fly in SC or NMS. Wish them well tho. I hope when the SC beta comes out, I'll still be alive.
Hey, I've been a backer since 2014. I can confirm that Star Citizen is not a scam. It's a very buggy early access title, but it's not a scam.

No harm in trying it for FREE. No one is forcing anyone to pay for anything. It gets updates every quarter. If you need any help, or information, don't hesitate to ask.

Free for a week is very good if you were interested at all in this game/genre/Freelancer (just give me teh new freelancer game we were told about in 2011 plskthx) :P

^^ but I think ankerman is referring to the $300 million dollars + that people have given to this project so far

Is this still in alpha?

Honestly better to put your cash in No Mans Sky, they're releasing updates at least monthly and look at what they've accomplished over the same time frame as this. I still dabble with elite now and again, not played for 6 months as it stopped being 'fun'.

Why do you think that? :/
Watched the Digital Foundry review of it's alpha state and I think it looks pretty promising as well as groundbreaking.

$300m dollars and nearly a decade in development? Is it Chris Roberts or Chris Grayling leading the team?

Not that I'm defending SC but the scope for SC is much bigger than No Mans Sky.

But yes it's taking forever. I've been a backer of SC for about 4 years now and wish the would just release something polished and then add more as time goes on.

I have both, no man's sky was cool for about 50 hours..... And now it's just lonely, is much rather be having a laugh with my mates on Star Citizen smuggling space weed and running from space cops 🤪

Elite at least is nearly complete experience. Really fun for hundreds of hours. I wish SC will release soon but hardly possible though.
Problem is development strategy. Elite done very barebones working first, then build around that.
SC wants to get done everything together.
We can see how hard is to complete such a ambitious project in both cases as Elite still needs a lot of work to make it perfect game, but in my opinion it feels like 90% complete.
How tf is this still alpha. Slower than 7 days to die devs
I can't see the free play.
I feel like an idiot for backing this, it's still a complete shambles. At this point I'm looking forward to the inevitable controversy more than the game being released. All the "gameplay" builds to date have been a complete joke.

Have you played all the tutorials? They cover most of activities. It takes a bit of practice to get used to all the controls. Just give it some time.
Looks like it's running late...
Voted cold the deal doesn't exist!

It was later than I thought, it's live now, links updated!

YouTube tutorials, I linked one by a guy called BoredGamer, be very quickly goes through just about everything, I found myself going back to it several times as and when I got each situation for a quick refresh. I'm terrible at remembering all the different keys but after a few days, I started picking it up pretty quick.
Had an update a while back that was 200GB, then a few months after that an update so it was only 80GB total, they are optimising and getting the several separate games to run together quite nicely.
I backed the Kickstarter , I'll be taking finasteride and wearing a leg bag by the time this game comes out .

Just to put that into perspective, just the mobile version of PUBG made over billion in under 12 months - I'm not saying star citizen hadn't had a lot of money, but they are doing something significantly bigger and better than PUBG and PUBG Mobile put together with less revenue over the whole life of the project than Bluehole makes in a single quarter!!!

Bingo!.....if i oersonally wanted to spend good money on broken buggy unfinished games that can churn out dlc anfter dlc after dlc at the drop of a hat for more cash, while the core game always seems to be unfinished and broken, then i would buy any game from EA, Ubisoft and Activision.

Rockstar made GTA 5 in nearly half the time this has taken to become an alpha release
Before you sign up go here- gorefer.me/ran…TAR and it gives you a 100% random referral code.Using a referral code gets you a free 5,000UEC ($5USD of in-game money)! You can use it to upgrade your ship (Avenger Titan is the best bang for buck ship which gives you loads of game-play styles) in game. Also ship rentals are in now so you can rent ships too.
Knew the ignorant would be out in spades lol How long did it take a fully up-and-running studio to make Red Dead Redemption 2 again ? RSI started with a few blokes in an office and built up over the years. Plus feature creep but that's fine as i can really see where it is going now i.e. the game alot of sci-fi nerds ever wanted. It's free for a week- try it.

Stockholm syndrome.

Stockholm syndrome.

haha probably... but to be honest, I'm just as critical about that game as most. My biggest qualm is with the cult-like backers.
Don’t be taken in by this free week.

The fan boys for this game would put your average religious zealot to shame.

This is just another RSI fund raiser campaign.

Don’t part with a penny until it has a firm retail release date.

Bluehole released a finished game on every platform, so no surprise it’s making them a lot of money. SC is still in alpha & limited to one platform.

Not really an apples for apples comparison.
Keeps randomly crashing for me. Shame.

It's a demanding game- needs to be on a SSD,16GB ram, make sure Windows page file is not disabled. Ideally set it to auto-sized on an SSD etc Turn off all other stuff running on your PC so its concentrating on SC alone.
I haven't had a crash (touch wood) in months myself- exeept when the servers are rebooted that is.
If you fancy doing some PC master race stuff also..

Try this :

  • Press the Windows key + R to bring up a Run dialog.
  • Type the following and click OK: %localappdata%\Star Citizen
  • Open game.log
At the end of the files, generally you got something like this :

Run from internal: No

Is fatal error: No

Is GPU crash: No

Is Timeout: No

Is out of system memory: No

Is out of video memory: No

One of those may be a yes, and you can investigate further.
If all no, it might be server side- due to the influx of the free week players maybe? When joining a server you have regoins option- i used to pick Aus when it was the middle of the night there so the servers were less used.

The folder was C:\Program Files\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE for me, not seeing any of that yet.

Will keep an eye out next time I play.

Cheers.
Star Citizen is a literal scam, who charge people $20,000 for an in-game ship yet the game has not left alpha since its crowd-funded inception many years ago. Be warned.

Or you can earn 50k+ an hour, easily so it's 40 hours for the biggest and baddest ship of your choice. surely the idea is you earn the credits, and then you've got the satisfaction of achieving the ship. If people want to pledge silly amounts of money let them get on with it, doesn't stop normal people enjoying the game, same goes for alpha status, it's still enjoyable, doesn't matter that it's alpha
