Agree, nothing really tops zahns trilogy for me. But am stuck for stuff to read so if anyone has read these, would like to know if it's worth getting into
Cheers

I've picked these up. I'm 2/3 of the way through Zahn's trilogy (loving it!), but waiting on my next Audible credit before I get Treason, so might as well give these a go at this price in the meantime.

Zahn did a second Thrawn trilogy. Not read it myself but it's on my radar.
Aftermath should have been what ‘The Last Skywalker’ was called after the awful ‘The Last Jedi’. How it is even possible to make two films this bad with such good source material is beyond me.

Yep I've read the first novel and have the 2nd, just need the time to read it. The 3rd is still in hard back so am waiting on the paperback version it's quite decent though I really miss Pellaeon as a character.
Shady Aftermath
I'm allergic to post-Lucas Star Wars content.

I've not read these one's but other new SW books I've read are great. Anything by Claudia Gray in particular is superb.
I read a lot of old EU stuff, but it was always very hit n miss. Mostly miss tbh. The new books I've read feel more like SW, very character driven and less like crap sci-fi, as so much EU stuff was (with the exception of Zahn and the X-Wing series).

This is the fellow that went on a Twitter rant about JRR Tolkien. By his own admission, he's a better writer than Tolkien!
Anyone know which books are the best to start with?

I think the books in this listing are set a year after Return of the Jedi. I've not read them, but personally I'd start with 'Bloodline' by Claudia Gray. A Leia focussed story set 6 years before The Force Awakens. Lays out the political situation in the New Republic and how it's starting to come apart. The book has connections to 'Leia: Princess of Alderaan' also by Claudia Gray, set 2 years before Star Wars. Both are great books, particularly the latter.

Thank you I'll have a look for them.
