Oh you've pre-ordered already I see. You should have waited as I heard they're about to release a special collectors 'Buyers Remorse Edition'. It comes with 2 disappointing skins and EAs standing order details.

I mean the net result is you get either a good game worth keeping or something you can finish in a weekend and then throw on Ebay right after.

Worst result you lose out on a fraction of the cost. So if it's a game you're interested in and it looks good, who cares?

Or wait for the reviews and then buy it, because they never run out of stock.

Everyone cares when game developers release trash because people buy games blind.

Its Respawn and the director of God of War 3. Trailers look promising also.

I prefer to try games myself often than just rely on reviews, so for me that would only mean waiting longer to get a copy.

Wait for reviews / overall concensus to say its good = save a tenner on price by waiting.

Wait for reviews / overall consensus to say its bad = save 100% of the price of the game.

Win-win

When you play games long enough you can tell what you like more by viewing previews than listening to reviews or numbers in my opinion. The only thing that could sting me in this scenario is a lack of enough content or a broken release.

Since the developer has a track record that would speak otherwise I'm happy to take that risk for what amounts to £5-10 at best.
I respect anyone’s right to pre-order, but just know that you’re horrible people if you do.
Stung twice by EA and Star wars not the third time
Same price at Base.
People need to realise ea aren't making this game

EA didn't make Fallout 76 either.

Imo it's less about individual risk and more about community responsibility. If anyone who makes any product knows that they are getting paid regardless of the quality of the product, it leads to obvious problems.

Everyone seems to have an exception ("I know this developer is good"). - This is how so many people got stung by Bethesda and Fallout 76.

Not trying to be offensive or anything, but that's a slightly selfish and inconsistent approach. ("Pre-ordering is bad.. except for when I want to pre-order something").
Im old enough to remember when EA and Ubisoft were bywords for high quality, safe buys, if a little corporate. Their reputation has now been just about ruined by shady business models and pre-ordering. It can and will happen to any developer.

I'd like to see more exclusive info/previews/demos for pre-ordering if people must do it, like Kickstarters or whatever. You actually get something meaningful for your loyalty rather than a risky buy and incomplete, broken games, a couple of cosmetic skins and a toy.

I consider it just as selfish to tell other people not to pre-order full stop. It's not inconsistent in the slightest because I don't agree with any "Pre-ordering is bad" statements. Your only responsibility is to your own money, if you choose to pre-order then you can't complain if you're stung, but that's it.

If I know I want a game, I'm happy to pay for the game, and I can deal with the rare occurrence that I'll be disappointed by getting most of my money back at the very least, then it seems utterly selfish for other people to tell me not to do so because they're on the fence about it.

And I'm saying that as someone that actually hasn't pre-ordered this game yet.

This.

Why pre order in this day and age? Unlimited digital downloads and loads of physical copies at every shop, with regular discounts soon after launch.

Why give your money to something you have no idea you will like?!

I wasn't talking about you particularly, just in general, sorry I think I was addressing a few people all in one post which happened to be yours.

The only point I was making re what you were saying was that you're seeing it as an issue where you might only risk a bit of money yourself, but I'd argue that pre-ordering has wider implications for everyone. If people started pre-ordering cars without test drives, you could imagine how they would turn out. Broken and tacked together in a lot of cases I'd have thought.

I wouldn't tell anyone not to pre-order, but I would tell them not to then moan about Fallout/Battlefront/COD etc when they turn out to be money grabbing messes (not that you do/have).

People are conned into believing what rich people want them to believe. I think that's also why people are so defensive about it. They know deep down that they're Turkeys voting for Christmas.

I mean....the other side of it is that sometimes (SOMETIMES) people see a game that they know they are going to buy.
Football fans are going to buy the new fifa every year, COD fans the same. Star wars fans may just want to buy anything star wars that's coming out and want it release day, regardless of the reviews.
Also, some games can be slightly cheaper to buy pre-order. Certainly if you want it release day, it will be cheaper to buy it here and have it shipped beforehand, than to head to a physical store on that day. So in order to get it (arguably) cheaper for release day, you need to pre-order it. Also a lot include the pre-order bonuses that are a nice little extra.

So yeah, the vast majority of people don't need to pre-order a game. But you can't completely knock having the option for everyone.
Thats the last time i post a deal involving EA!
Preordered with simply games, didn't receive item until 5 days after release, apparently royal mail first class, I think not. I'd recommend preordering with another company.
