Well at least you don’t have to rush to buy they probably have 72 million copies !
But I can't escape the feeling/knowledge that the makers of this film just didn't care. The proof can be encapsulated with this one line:
And that lack of care completely takes me out of the movie. And damaged the original 6 films by utterly negating their whole story arc.
Thank the maker for The Mandalorian for saving my love of Star Wars.
But, if you did enjoy it, this is a brilliant price for a uhd disc.
Such a waste.
I think the biggest issue is Ryan Johnson shat the bed with The Last Jedi and there was no where to go on the last film. How, after Fisher died you'd have her kept in and still make Luke disappear, I have no idea. They had plenty of time for reshoots for The Last Jedi to enable a proper final episode. It didn't help that Jar Jar Abrams is a hack (though Ryan Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy are most responsible for nearly destroying Star Wars). Supposedly they made several versions of this film and the effects were being done until the last minute. I find it hard to believe this was the best version.
Nowhere to go? Rian Johnson left them with a perfect setup - an easy lob:
- the inspirational story of Luke facing down the First Order has already spread across the galaxy "the spark to ignite the fire" (JJ ignored this entirely, in favour of NO-ONE coming to help in the interim, back to square one)
- the force isn't just for Jedis, force sensitive folk are everywhere (not for JJ, even Finn didn't get to keep his hinted force abilities - leaving it to LEGO to fix that in the Holiday Special)
- big bad is now Kylo Ren. Unstable, angry, getting deeper into the dark side.
Ultimately, all they had to do was NOT make the original 3/6 films pointless. And "somehow" they achieved that.
I now know Ryan Johnson posts on HotUKDeals, what movie franchise are you ruining next Ryan?
They're giving me a Back to the Future sequel! Everyone loves Marty and Doc, right?
