This is the 2nd generation set I think but its down to the lowest price its ever been on Amazon. Minor diffs from the other set. Its a minatures based game around star wars whats not to love. You can buy lots of other ship minatures and character cards to change the battles.

Can you actually play this without buying other stuff?

Yes! There's enough in the box to play a game. It's then up to you how much, if any, extra bits/ships/mat you buy on top
The damage cards have been changed to eliminate effects that don’t do anything in the force awakens set. Good value for the original though, be prepared to pay £200 for expansions once you get hooked though!

Edit: Image shows Force Awakens set so should be up to date damage deck and minor rule tweaks

yes the base set includes 1 x wing + 2 tie fighters to allow basic battles. There are a lot of gameplay videos on youtube detailing the flight and battle mechanics. I've had it on camelcamelcamel alert for a number of months so only just ordered this myself.

You could quite reasonably buy 2-3 of the starter sets to have all you needed for a standard game
Ok I've updated description as pointed out by jayhutton10 this is actually the later updated set "Star Wars X-Wing the Force Awakens Core Set"

Thanks for the recommendation - just ordered a 2nd set. The extra movement ruler and ships should come in handy
Definitely worth getting 2 at this price , thanks op !
Great find, just ordered! Thank you OP!

My son saw one at comic-con for £30, couldn't justify paying that much!! He'll be delighted with this on Christmas

No worries. The extra dice are the most useful thing, can get 6 dice attacks with some of the scum ships. For £13 it is the same as one of the single ship expansions
Bargain price, but like most Games Workshop stuff, this game is a *huge* money sink.

If you (or your kids) get invested into it, don't be surprised if you find yourself down the best part of a grand in a few years time!

Good thinking! I might pick this up just for another X-Wing and 2 Tie Fighters

Like I mentioned above, you’ll probably appreciate the extra dice more than anything. Think a dice pack alone is £8 so getting the extra ships and movement tokens for £5 is a bargain
Could a 7 year old get much out of this if playing with an adult, does anyone know?

I’ve played it with a 5 year old with stripped down rules. Would imagine a 7 year old would be fine, especially if they are a Star Wars fan. The rules aren’t complicated and are logical, there’s a fair bit of strategy to it though
Really great game, fiancee and I have played a huge amount of this over the past 2 years. Definitely playable by itself without any expansions but each extra ship has its own unique upgrades and brings its own thing to the game. @rlockyer I don't see any reason why not, the rules are relatively simple once picked up and I imagine you'll both have a lot of fun!
gaming crack for some. I never got that into it: too fiddly.

and expensive.
Does anyone have an opinion on which is better between this, the Armada sets and the Imperial Assault sets (ignoring price)?

Armada is slower, a lot slower. Way more strategic as well as you have to plan moves 2-3 turns in advance. X-wing is more fast paced dogfighting but with a decent amount of strategy. I’ve not played imperial assault but have heard decent things about it.

I’m tempted by rebellion at the moment
Cheers fancied this for ages. Have some heat.

Ordered this myself just for my and the Mrs to have a go - do I need to buy more or is it ok as it is for the odd game (probably play once lol)....

also what is different about the force awakens set? Just Poe coloured x wing?
People tend to buy more then one core set, as it's works out cheaper than buy buying 3 separate ships, I did that with the original core sets. At £13 it's well worth buying as one ship costs roughly about that.

Yeah you can have just the core set and play the missions that come with it. Or even make your own missions up. You don't have to buy any extras as of yet. But you can play with just the core sets.

You get the T-70 X Wing and the TIE/fo which are different to the originals in terms of moves and stats. You also get tweaked rules and an updated damage deck which stops you getting critical damage that has no effect.

Can easily play with 1-2 core sets but if you like it prepare to take out a new mortgage and build an extension to keep it all in
