Startcraft 2 needs a binded account to play (Even the single player campaign)
So a pre-owned copy is nothing but a pretty coaster

Aye pretty much all PC games shouldn't be sold pre-owned or 2nd hand (well past few years anyhow) as most are either linked to a Steam account.net account or similar.

Exactly a preowned copy is pretty useless.

I bought my copy from cex, arrived sealed.

Fantastic deal. Well worth getting at this price!

best game ever!!!!

Am I the only one that that finds this game ridiculously repetitive and boring online? When I first got it me and my m8 were doing 2v2 battles online but 90% of the games were over in like 5-8 minutes the other team just rushes everytime with like 5-8 units they both attack the same base and its pretty much impossible to defend against (lack of good base defense early game structures). You can tell your team m8, help im in trouble need backup but by the time he arrives as everything is destroyed so quickly that its too late. I would describe myself as a better than average RTS player but this game seems to be determined alot of the time by everyone having the same build order but whoever gets that 1 extra unit out fastest wins. In the end me and my m8 started doing the rush tactic and yes it works most of the time but was very boring and hence stopped playing and gone back to more advanced, strategic, tactical , less repetitive and more enjoyable RTS's. Im amazed that this game is so popular, its the same as trying to understand how Friends the tv series was so popular when it was awful.

Try 1v1? Less dependent on others then. The custom games are cool too.

I know how to play the game but if you listened and understood what I said then you would of realized that the other players dont let you play any other way its all rush rush rush, you have to go barracks mad and quick because you know the other team is going to rush. Me and my m8 are both decent players and we got into the silver league just by rushing so it isn't that hard it just isn't that enjoyable. But I will take the other point that 1v1 matches might be different and better, I haven't done any of these as like playing with m8s but maybe its worth giving them ago.

In the slightly higher leagues people realize that if you wall off correctly and send out a scout at the 8-9 mark, a rush is always easily defendable. As a zerg you need to do a bit more scouting, but even then you should be able to defend against a 9 pool quite easily if you have sent out a scout at around 8-9 supply and build a pool immediately after noticing that your opponent has gone for quick pool. If needed, block off the gap between the hatchery and the geyser with an evolution chamber, that way zerglings can only attack one at a time making them more or less useless.

I play diamond level 1v1, and it's been a really long time since I saw anyone pull off a major attack before the 5:00 minute mark.

For team games the same is true, if you have a large ramp get your friends to wall off with you, if you have your own ramp you should be able to block it off in time easily. You will need support eventually, but if they still don't give support after the enemies sent out the second wave it is really your allies' fault and not the game itself. Find some better players or play random, you'll get there eventually.

Yes ok so 1v1 is defendable against the rush I understand that but im talking about 2v2 when 1 person has been rushed by 2 players then it becomes very difficult to repel the attack. But anyway your all telling me 1v1 is the way to go, so thanks will try it.

Same price at Game too: http://www.game.co.uk/Games/PC-Games-and-Downloads/Strategy-Real-Time/StarCraft-II-Wings-of-Liberty/~r331102/?s=starcraft+2

Also you play terran and ur complaining of the game being imba, lol dont make me laugh

1v1 is true the way to go, but I'm 100% sure you do something wrong with 2v2. You say you know the game, but haven't tried 1v1? Lol...

Good Deal!

I'm more of a DOW2/COH man, but its indeed great, I should put more time into it

Unfortunately while this is a hot deal, Starcraft2 should have hit this price permanently a while ago, unfortunately the lovely Bobby Kotick has us all by the knackers, and as to keep the other campaigns back for future releases is a little bit rough

I can't believe I paid £35 for this just before Christmas

Activision Blizzard are actually a different company to Activision, and Kotick has no say in the affairs of whta goes on behind Blizzards doors. They artificially set the price for the games....

I'm aware that Activision/Blizzard are separate, but I was sure Kotick was still pulling strings from his office

.....Anyway, £40 release price for a PC game was shocking no matter how it goes

same as Game/Gamestation charging £35 for Shogun 2 and DOW2: Retribution on release

I editted my original post just barely before you posted a reply, so you may have missed it. There really isn't much difference between team games and 1v1. If you're having a hard time with it, either you're doing something wrong or your allies just blow. Usually it's the latter, because if you get attacked by multiple people early on and you die because of it then it's because your allies aren't helping you out enough.

I am also very disappointed in this game online. It is very repetitive because the only strategy seems to be attack. All the base defense structures are completely pointless as they are uselessly weak. It is also way to easy to reveal the enemy. No long range WMDs either. So it just seems to be a competition to who can bang their keys fastest in the right order to make the most attack units.

Visually I found it disappointing too. The main view is a small letterbox that you cant see much area at once, hence too much tiresome scrolling is required. No zooming out to see more, and if you have a bigger screen, like 1920x1200, you actually find you are only permitted to see even less area. Theres no useful close detail to see, units only just start to smoke when they are nearly dead anyway, thus you have to have the health bars turned on all the time, which always looks unrealistic. Oh and there is no AA, so the minimap is a jagged mess, as are most of the rather cheezy looking cutscenes in the single player.

I didnt see much social interaction either, nobody seems to talk in the lobby chat areas, and in game is very terse.

I can only guess its popularity comes down to the mentality of present day gaming which seems to favour narrow mindless quick killing, and showers of pointless trophies.

Rant over.

What I really miss is the sort of RTS team games I used to have on early C&C versions, where you could make elaborately defended stealthy bases that required cunning teamplay to break. What game offers this today?

@scorcher
Check out some of the pro games cast on youtube (HuskeyStarcraft casts some good ones)
If you can pull off some of the strategies the pros use you are guaranteed to beat every nooby "Spam attack" rush build they throw at you.

I actually prefer base defence being weak.. In the days of c&c generals it was impossible to defeat a turtle unless you attack them really early. Then came the superweapons and game over (Unlike in starcraft where a cunning player can always pull something outta his/her hat)

He is, Chaywa was talking complete balls. He's the CEO of the combined merged companies, called Activision Blizzard
marketwatch.com/sto…ion
I quote: "Blizzard remains its own unit, with Morhaime reporting directly to Kotick."
Activision and Blizzard are still crating games/ip in silos, but Kotick still wears the daddy pants

I know how to play the game

Really? Don't want to appear rude, but it seems like you're suffering from the steep learning curve.
We've all been there. You need to persevere, cos if you do, a very pleasurable experience awaits you.
Watch replays. Watch tutorials on youtube. It all sounds very geekish, but it works. I'm a sap of a bronze player, but I've been watching vids on APMs and keyboard usage to get my game up. All the little things help. Stick with it, it does get better. 2 v 2 customs are also great fun. Had a 40 minute game with me n a french kid the other day. He had never won a 2v2 game and nearly wet his pants when we (2 x Protoss) crushed them (2 x Terran) I was more please he was pleased

I wouldn't say the game is imbalanced per say. But it did take Starcraft 1 many many years to be as balanced as it is today. One thing Blizzard are extremely good at is supporting their games well beyond what anyone generally expects of a company. For 25 quid you get one hell of a game with one hell of a lot of content.
