In this visually creative space adventure from the team that would go on to give the world INDEPENDENCE DAY and GODZILLA, a timid, glasses-wearing Egyptologist (Spader) uncovers an ancient portal to another planet and is dispatched there forthwith--along with blundering, clodfooted government troops (led by Russell). The downtrodden populace they encounter, ruled by godlike, androgynous King Ra (Davidson, in his first role after becoming a star in THE CRYING GAME), must be led to literacy and freedom; Ra must be defeated; the intellectual must find his machismo; our boys must return to Earth.

Very tempted to make this my first Bluray for my new ps3. Excellent start to a film - loses its way a bit in the middle but good flick.

It's a good start imo, the film looks better than ever. More than enough to compensate for the drift. Plenty of good films to choose from. Leon is a fair price, I think it's still in the hottest links. I got this from a deal posted last week for this price. It's worth it.

Nice to see Blurays coming down in price.

If Blu-ray fails as a product, it's this sort of practise that will kill it. A blu-ray should be the final word in quality home viewing. Not mediocre versions as you await a better one on the same format. This is fine for a fiver, perfectly fine in fact. Sod the remastered versions.

Exactly the same happened with DVD, so why not BD?

Isn't there something wrong with the alien language subtitles as in they don't come on?! I'm fairly sure you either have to have subtitles on all the time or flick between on and off by using your remote.

Agreed but what can you do eh. remastered version is better, read the previous threads for more info,

Anyone buying this has probably seen it and just buyng it for the blu-ray ness and quality, I want it to be the best, just my view.

Definetly waiting for remastered version to come out, discussion on forums is that it's a better version, and I hope this time they add extras!

Subtitles are fine throughout. Seems it must have been an earlier batch. Mine played fine and I noted it on on of the previous stargate threads.

The point is with these hi def films is they are supposed to be the best quality. And now they can sniff twice the profit they fob the public off with barely half decent versions. I hated it on DVD but on a system that prides itself on top quality it takes the ****.
