There would be very little left in the universe to explore.I detest …There would be very little left in the universe to explore.I detest reboots for reboots sake, but there is some merit for it when the universe has already been fully fleshed out by past works.SG1, Atlantis, SGU....what's that, 17 seasons?!I loved most of it..... but I think it's fair to say that universe has run its course!

I just wish SGU would have been picked up by someone to continue with that story.

Got axed just as it was getting good
Heated as it is a freebie, but who really wants to watch movies in SD in 2018? If they were going to give it away they could have done a decent job of it and provided it in HD at least. 480P will look awful on anything beyond a phone screen, especially with Youtube's typically aggressive compression...

It's a pretty forgettable movie as I recall so I wouldn't worry

Its a brilliant concept and I thought the movie is and will always be a Sci Fi classic

7.1/10 on IMDB . I still think it's a brilliant original film that spawned SEVENTEEN years of TV shows and films , based on that I get the feeling more than a few people liked the concept .

didnt no that cheers
I was quite disappointed with Netflix removed SG1 from their content. I had watched SGU, some of Atlantis and had just finished season 3 of SG1 when they pulled it.

From the trailers, the new series looks absolutely awful in terms of acting and effects.

Yeah, this. SGU was by far the best incarnation of the Stargate franchise, although I did enjoy SG-1 as well.

Completely agree. Google still seem to be acting like its 2008 in terms of HD avaliability so they are still treating it like its a luxury. Seems stupid especially with the advent of 4K nowadays

Rather watch Starfleet again.
Heat for sharing - thanks! The quality isn't the greatest, but it's full & free and I watched it again! Is it just me or does the new series try to closely match the opening scene?
brilliant music

SGU is crap compared to SGA. They cancelled SGA just to promote the SG universe via SGU to younger audience and it failed.

I added heat but stand by my comment, hd should be standard and minimum these days, yes even on freebies. Lots of other free content on youtube in hd and even 4k, so no excuse really. Sd resolution was for the old crt televisions, it displays badly on all lcds because it requires loads of scaling to make it fill the screen....
Watched this for the 1st time back in 2008 (living under a rock) and it got me into SG-1

Smashed all 10 seasons in probably 2 weeks, what an experience

Miss stargate, but a new web series (Origins) was released last night. Worth a look

Thanks for the heads-up on Stargate Origins!
Pokemon the first movie extended edition is on YouTube also? Does that get heat?
480p quality is unwatchable. Full HD/1080p should be bare minimum these days. There's also a huge difference between 1080p on a streaming service like YouTube and actual 1080p you get on a Blu Ray. In fact the difference is night and day inferior on YT, I don't know how they can get away with calling that setting 1080p as it's clearly not and closer to 720p.

Since when is offering objective criticism considered bitching?
I watched it last night and have to say I really enjoyed watching it again. Even though it's 480p, the quality is very clean and as close to the DVD as you're going to get. It'll be interesting to see if Origins holds its own. I really enjoyed the original series and spin offs, Can't believe it spawned 18 series (including the animated one) and two films. Pretty much ran solid for 14 consecutive years!

Don't be so dramatic! It isn't "unwatchable", it's just not a great experience!

I watched this on a train on my phone with headphones, and it was fine.
Because of this, I re-watched the movie last night for probably the first time in a decade. It's still great.

And now I'm annoyed that it's somehow out of print on blu ray.

Nice!

Is it cannon? If so, any idea how long after SG-1/A/U it's set?

Just watched the trailer, and realised that my question was rather stupid considering the title...

Although I do still wonder how they're going to make it canon?
