Box set containing all ten seasons of the long-running TV sci-fi series as well as two feature length films. The TV series follows the adventures of the SG1 crew as they come up against various foes in a number of amazing and hostile worlds. 'Stargate: The Ark of Truth' (2008) is set at the end of the series' final season. The Ark of Truth is an ancient artefact which can bestow enormous powers upon those who possess it. The Stargate team, anxious to halt the impending Ori assault on Earth, finds itself in a desperate race against time to find the Ark. 'Stargate: Continuum' (2008) begins with SG1 attending the execution of Ba'al (Cliff Simon), the final Goa'uld System Lord. When Teal'c (Christopher Judge) and Vala (Claudia Black) suddenly disappear into thin air, Carter (Amanda Tapping), Daniel (Michael Shanks) and Mitchell (Ben Browder) travel back to Earth to discover that history has been altered, and, in this new timeline, the Stargate programme has never been discovered. When they try to convince the military that the timeline has been altered and that Ba'al is responsible, hundreds of Goa'uld ships suddenly arrive in orbit, led by Ba'al, his queen, Qetesh (Vala), and his first prime, Teal'c. It's now up to O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) and the rest of the crew to find the Stargate and set things right before the Goa'uld take over the world

What's people's opinions? I've just started Battlestar Galactica and really enjoying it. Is this similar/better?

Similar as in its sci-fi. but totally different.
It's also *brilliant*.

As someone who loves Star Trek TOS, Star Trek Voyager, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and Stargate Universe, I just could not get into SG1. I've only seen some of the later series though so maybe the earlier series were better.

yup shoulda watched it from s1e1

Richard Dean Anderson had actually got a Honorary Colonel Rank within the U.S Airforce. . which is cooL

The gradual reveal of the various alien races is was what made the show so great IMO.
The latter series lacked that constant tease; still good, just not quite so much mystery.

I think that's why I disliked the Atlantis spin-off; the metaphorical Pandora's box was opened in s1e1.

Initially Destiny did a good job in restoring mystery to the franchise....... but then the series got horribly side-tracked with all the Lucian alliance garbage. Shame.

Even better; they got the *real* USAF Chief of Staff (at the time) to star in the show, as himself!

Never watched Battlestar I'm afraid but this is an AMAZING show! First time I watched it was when I was at school and used to come home, listen to music and seen it on TV and given it a name of my own called "The army show". lol. At the time just couldn't remember it's real name. Over time I grew on it and loved it so stopped listening to the music and actually listened to the TV. Been watching it ever since to this day. Just can't stop. If your not sure what it's like then should watch it on Freeview (channel Pick - 011). It's on at 9am and 10am Monday - Friday. Watch a few episodes and see what you think of it. It's much better watching from episode 1 tho but at least you'd have an idea what it's like.

You need to watch BSG too! You can't compare the two imo, bsg is darker/more serious but tbh they're both good, so if you liked one you will probably like the other.

Battlestar got a little bit boring toward the end for me. SG1 one is great once you get a little bit in to the 1st season

All the SG1, Atlantis and Universe are all on Netflix if you have it , maybe set up a trial if you don't have Netflix and try SG1

The deal leads you to a price of £49.99 and then gets confusing as to whether it is the blue ray edition or the DVD one.

Not so hot a deal then for one of my all time faves.

Only Stargate Atlantis and Universe got Blu-Ray releases since they were filmed in HD. Only the last 3 seasons of SG-1 were filmed in HD but even those never got a Blu-Ray release. The movies did though.

But this release is all DVD.

Universe has only seen one of it's 2 seasons released on Blu-ray and we still haven't had Ark of Truth in the UK (the US release is region A locked)! All the Stargate SG-1 seasons up to the HD switchover were shot on film, so apart from the effects, they're good to go, we just need MGM to invest in new SFX!

Really enjoyed both SG-1 and Atlantis. The tone is just perfect; it doesn't take itself too seriously, but there are still intense moments and plenty of excitement. Plus Richard Dean Anderson is brilliant throughout. Nothing else quite like it out there. They're rebooting the franchise with another movie trilogy which has me a little worried, as it's from the guys who made the original Stargate movie who have said they didn't like the direction SG-1 took the franchise...

Grabbed this last night, oh dear I am stuffed full of boxsets. Thank you to the OP.

This is a great description. SG1 is great because its set now and we just stumble into these predicaments with alien races and slowly learn more as they go along. The initial episodes are now, looking back, a touch cheesy but they are over 10 years old. Great show, one of my favourites!

Has anyone received this yet? or is it still 'Awaiting Stock Pick'?

Mine came a few days ago.
