How is there sizing like normaly shoes or biiger/smaller

I've had my daughter sized at Clarks reading reviews they come up bigger so I've ordered size down but also her size too with free returns I thought was worth it

I'd highly recommend a visit to a Gordon Scott's (other good shoe shops available) or similar to have your child measured using a Startrite gauge.

Can't really compare to any other manufacturer as styles vary. As far as I'm aware, Startrite "generally" have a wider range of width fittings than Clarke's. I know that isn't an answer to your question tho.

Gordon Scott's will measure, try different styles, sizes, widths, insoles, chiropody foam (sticky back felt) and using the secret "up a size-down a width" trick which sometimes works miracles to get a good fit, should be able to tell which you child walks best in.

Edit.... Just noticed they were "first" shoes,... Definitely get them fitted if you don't know what your doing yourself. Don't get me wrong, I'm not messed up cos my mom didn't get fitted shoes for me, but I am aware of how I walk, and I probably go through more footwear as a result.

Im sure it was startrite shoes my daughter had, within 1 week they were scuffed up and peeling.
I buy a size smaller in start rite. Much better quality than clarkes I find.
Love startrite shoes. Our son had a few pairs and just ordered some for new daughter when she starts walking.

TOTALLY agree with the above! A few years ago, Which? did a test where they sent people round different shoe shops, including Clarks and Startrite, to see who did a good job of measuring the child's feet, choosing the correct size and width of shoe, etc. Their result was that the Startrite staff were the worst at shoe fitting! Which? recommended that you choose and fit the shoes yourself if you were going for Startrite. I definitely think the best thing is to go to an independent quality shoe shop and have the child's feet measured including width, and have several different sizes/widths tried on for size.

Did not know that.

Also worth a look at getting fitted at Jhon Lewis's as I remember them having pretty good training also with Startrite.

Agree about the importance of visiting a reputable independent shop to get the kids feet measured, but not sure what you mean about Start-rite staff being the worst at fitting, they don't have their own stores?

It was some years ago, it was staff working for Start-rite.
these are lovely however, if your child cannot do their own shoes its a nightmare as I have found out! we have not had buckle shoes before and wont again she is always the last to get her shoes on or off and then still needs help as doesn tighten them enough we got rid and have Velcro!
