Well I just got a set, so yes.
Didn't know they were on here before - but well worth reminding people anyway at this price.

Which store was this please?

If you have all your computer stuff or audio/tv stuff plugged in behind furniture it is a mighty convenient way to switch off so that it isn't all on standby.

Good price will pic one up thanks OP h+r added...And like the above metioned there great for plugs that are out of the way and require things to be moved in order to get to manually.

I bought a load of these for my mate who has recently had a stroke (aged 37) and is confined to a wheelchair unable to move his right hand or leg, these were a godsend for him. I also use them for lights etc which are plugged in behind the TV.

No

No

Thanks, not that I expect them to be at that price but the picture is exactly the same as the ones I have that are dimmable, branded ]Philex

Low quality. Switching off my amplifier 2-3 times a day without any reason. Probably is good for something small, like phone charger. Remote sometimes is not reacting at all.

Two main questions

[LIST=1]
[*]Do these use IR, and so do they need to be directed right at the reciever?

[*]The dimmerable ones, I don't really understand how they work. Is there two buttons to increase/decrease brightness for lights attached? If so I can't see anything like that on the Philex brand image. Does that mean not much use for anything other than connecting lights?

They are radio controlled (433 MHz). This radio band is licensed for low power short-distance applications, so it's possible that if someone nearby is also using a device on the same frequency that you may get interference.

Systems that are dimmable have + and - buttons on the remote. You need the special wall plug that has dimming functions, the regular wall plugs ignore the + and - buttons.

Well, in the case of the Philex dimmable ones I had (I say "had" because two out of the three broke) there is only a on & off button for each light. Press and hold on/off button to dim/bright.

The Lidl dimmable ones do have + & - buttons, and so far, are lasting longer.

These are brilliant, I own a set. (NOT low quality which one of the posters stated). QVC were quoting £23 + postage for these, and didn't look as good. Yeah, I know, that's QVC 'Value' for you

In case anyone is interested, I put an energy monitor on these when they were on standby, and it didn't even register 1W.

Recommended these to my friends who have also bought them, and think they're great.

For a fiver, you can't go wrong.

I have a set of these and to a PP, they are usefull for turning off everything at once before you go to bed (as the fire brigade recommend!!!!) We have lamps plugged in behind furniture so can now hide the ugly wires and use the remotes and a lamp high up on a shelf in my kitchen which we can now use easily and turn them all off together before bed..... you can set multiple sockets to one button and mine are fab, work the lamps in all the rooms at once, no need to stand near them at all.....

Noticed these in my local Asda (South Bank Middlesbrough) at this price a couple of days ago. Seemed to be plenty of stock.

Great, I'd not seen this deal before so good to know.

Rep and Heat added

I bought some of these at this price about a year ago and they are good quality and well worth a fiver.
Asda do seem to do their old trick of putting them back up to £15 every so often and then doing a roll back to a £5 again, which is what they seem to do with a lot of their roll back items.

Managed to find these at Asda Stafford today, they still had plenty. Our TV plug is really hard to get to and you have to reach right over the TV (which I can't do because I'm too small). I wasn't sure if they would work without being able to 'see' the remote contol beam but they work a treat.

Just thought i'd reply for anybody who might still come across this post (like i did)... this deal is out there!

I bought these yesterday at Hulme Asda in Manchester and there were still a good few of these left on the shelf too.
