is this game good?

Metascore 90/100 so thinking it's good but for a game for 75p is a bargain

I love Civ 2 but I dont know about this "steam" mumbo jumbo Is it download only through their own programme?

Steam is one of the top ways to get games - dont worry about them conning you or anything dude - You buy a game you can download it as many times as you want as long as you log in to your account

never played it but for this price worth a punt

lol wow, socheap, for that price I think I will try it, my brother is always telling me to try it.

Can this one be played online?

Just bought it, looks like it will run on the netbook.

Good deal, loved the original Civilization and for 75p you cant say no. Bought, heat added!

Be warned civ3 will not run properly at the very popular netbook screen resolution of 1024x600, it requires a minimum screen height of atleast 768 pixels.

Some netbooks can (via drivers or application software) create a scaled or scrollable virtual desktop that is larger than the physical 1024x600 screen resolution.
However a scaled virtual desktop makes the game unplayably slow & a scrollable virtual desktop is very inconvenient as many of the GUI interface buttons are placed in the bottom 168 pixels of the screen.

Not a good netbook game for the vast majority of people.

75p might as well be nothing. Bought!

Bargain, amazing game too. Heat + rep. Steam rocks for the special deals!

Good price. Hot.

Civ 4 colonization also available for £4.25, which is the cheapest I have seen it anywhere!

It's a fantastic game, I've lost many many hours to Civ over the years. For 75p, it's cheaper than breathing!

Steam is pretty awesome imo. If I had the choice between a Steam version of the game or a non-steam version, I'd go for Steam every time. No need to have discs or manuals or game covers or anything like that, wherever you go you can just log into your steam account and download/instsall the game. All updates etc are done automatically for most games through the Steam system, so no need to manually go to the website and download patches, and every week there's a good deal on and sometimes there are huge discounts for top quality games. It also remembers your settings for some games, so if you go to LAN etc then there's no need to setup a game every time you go on it. Helps having some friends on Steam too, as it because very easy to play with each other through steam, especially with the fantastic Steam Friends chat client.

The only downside with Steam is that a few other publishers are trying to copy it, so have their own software download management client type thing (e.g. EA Games), but Steam is by far the most popular and the better developers/publishers are all releasing their games on Steam nowadays.

This is a hot deal for Civ 3, but Civ 4 is alot better imo (as you'd expect). More efficient, more developed, better animations, and more ways to go about establishing your empire.

Never played it, but
"I'd buy that for a dollar"

I agree Steam is a very popular client, and saves the hassle of either going to the store or ordering online and wait for the game to arrive. However, prices on Steam take a LONG time to lower compared to their disc counterparts, and for that reason... I only buy bargains on Steam such as this one.

Heat from me

Excellent find - hotter than hell itself.

Just got Civ 4 with all the add-ons too. Bargain at £6.25.

I already have Civ 4 complete, I suppose its not worth getting this (not money wise, but time-wise), cos surely I might as well play 4????

Civ 4 is legendary awesome, everyone should get it. The problem is, it's a massive time-sink

Great deal, great games, gonna have a play me thinks!

Don't do it - get Civ IV instead. For the amount of time you'll invest in it, whether you pay 75p or £10, you're better off getting Civ IV. It's much, much better.

I already have Civ IV, just wish Colonizations was a bit cheaper as that didn't come with the 'complete' pack I got.

Would be silly not to pick this up for the price though and hopefully will find a workaround to run it on my netbook (there is a resultion switcher on my NC10 for 1024x768 so I'm hoping this will do the trick).

Heat added.

Just wait and get get the new Civ V when it's released ...

Buying it just cos it's 75p lol, + it'll run on my netbook

i am so confused by this game lol, theres some many little details but it is time consuming! even if im terrible lol

Civ 3 won't run on a 1024x600 screen.

Civ 4 will run if you do the following:

You've got to run it in windowed mode and force the resolution to … You've got to run it in windowed mode and force the resolution to 1024x600. Here's how you do it.Install the game via steam.Edit "C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAMEHERE\My Documents\My Games\sid meier's civilization iv\CivilizationIV.ini"Search for "ScreenHeight" ... Whatever value it says, change it to 600.Search for "ScreenWidth" (should be the next entry) change it to 1024 if necessary.Search for "FullScreen" change it to 0.Save and launch the game.Click the maximize window button on the title bar.I'm sure that the retail version uses a similar method. The game will default to running at the lowest settings, but it's pretty smooth and totally playable.

Means that you can play the newer game on a netbook. I'm well happy. Civ 4 will be a real time eater when I'm working away.

8yr old game - should we still be paying for it??? even if it is only 75p. When does it become free?

Am I the only one getting the following error when I Go To Deal?:

'Sorry!

An error was encountered while processing your request:

This item is currently unavailable in your region'

Also, ALL the Civilization games have disappeared off steam, part from Civilization V (pre-order).

What is going onnnnnn.... (I'm in the UK, in case you were wondering).

well that brought back memories, not played since civ II at uni, and then downloaded this last night about 6pm and eventually tore myself away at 4am, thank crunchie its friday eh!

well worth 75p of anyones money

NONE of the links in this deal are working for me, all the Civ games seems to have disappeared off UK and EU steam list. Can anyone in the UK confirm that they can't find Civ 3 or 4 on steam?

As mentioned earlier it isn't possible to get a satisfactory playing experience of civ3 at 1024x600.
If you've got Civ4 i'd save your money, Civ3 will look extremely dated by comparison - you'll probably run it once or twice and then abandon it.
Civ3 should IMO be abandonware by now but unfortunately Firaxis appear to disagree ;-)

Install teh Steam client and go to teh store front there to purchase ... far easier than going through the website.

Hi, I've had steam since the day it was released and I've tried both website and client (both old and new versions) and still says the games don't exist in my region (UK). Can you see them yourself at the moment?

Not a gamer, but couldn't resist for 75p
Now....if only I could find Z and Z:Steel soldiers that work on Windows 7 x64bit.....

Yep - working just fine right now - store.steampowered.com/sub…18/

Head into Control Panel --> Region and be sure you have every possible option set to "United Kingdom".

How does Civilization III compare to the other games in the series? It's not so much the price I care about when I buy a game, but more so if it's worth my spare time...
If Civ 4 is better, I'll just play one of the other thousands of games I have lying around first until this one drops to a similar price (even if it takes another 8 years of waiting, I'll prob have enough games to play until that time...)
