Don't forget the monthly subscription fee of £8.29 plus a 70p per character. There's also additional fees for in game storage in excess of that included with the character. The version of the game in the original post is free to download but doesn't come with a free month of play, unlike the one posted.

Isn't the version you can download a 14 day trial, or have I got that wrong?

I'm not sure. They definitely used to have 14-day free versions but I think they may have stopped them. I know that they changed FFXIV to allow you to play up to a certain point before you had to pay but I never got into FFXI. The page I viewed didn't mention a free period other than for returning members but I will admit that I wasn't paying too much attention.

Now you can experience the world of FINAL FANTASY® XI free for 14 days, by downloading the client software and registering the free trial registration code.
Why would you even start playing this when XIV is out

Cool. Might be a better option that the original deal as a monthly subscription is only a few pence more & it would get you 6 weeks in total. You can also try it out for free without buying something you may not like.

Many people play it in preference to XIV & vice-versa. It appeals to different people in different ways for different reasons.
XI was extremely outdated when WOW came out, I wouldn't even play it if I was paid today. I know that past the rough surface there is a good game in there, but you really need to love torture to play in 2020 lol.
