Captain a spaceship delivering critical intelligence to the Federation while being chased down by rebels in the top-down space strategy game FTL: Faster Than Light. Manage your crew through one-on-one ship combat and life or death situations, while making sure they don't die from lack of oxygen, fires, or shots from one of an arsenal of weapons. Random scenarios make each trip through the galaxy one full of surprises and challenges.

Key Features:

  • Complex Strategic Gameplay - Give orders to your crew, manage ship power distribution and choose weapon targets in the heat of battle.
  • Play at Your Own Speed - Pause the game mid-combat to evaluate your strategy and give orders.
  • Unique Lifeforms and Technology – Upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien races.
  • Be the Captain You Want - Hundreds of text based encounters will force you to make tough decisions.
  • Randomized Galaxy - Each play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your decisions. No two play-throughs will be quite the same.
  • No Second Chances! - Permadeath means when you die, there's no coming back. The constant threat of defeat adds importance and tension to every action.
FTL: Faster Than Light won the Excellence in Design and the Audience Award at the 2013 Independent Games Festival. It was also named Best Debut at the 2012 Game Developers Choice Awards and Best Short-form Game of 2012 by PC Gamer.

Sorry bud, that has gone completely over my nut. Ehm...what?

I'm disappointed.
My second most played game on Steam.

...and I've got a lot of games on Steam.

Bargain.
I have 500+ hours on this game - bargain at ten times this price.
This game looks basic but plays fantastic dont let the looks fool you
This was probably my most played Steam game and the most fun - great game. Most of my Steam games still to this day remain unplayed - this was the total opposite and I remember I couldn't stop playing it. Recommend to anyone who hasn't got it. Time seems to vanish completely when you're playing this. Wish they would bring out a sequel. It's also surprisingly difficult, engaging and unpredictable for such a basic simple looking game. Despite all it's repetition, it actually never felt repetitive at all when playing it. I really think they should add an online mulitplayer element to the ship battles / scenarios so it's not just AI you're dealing with - would really spice things up - so many cool things you could do with this game design tbh.

Insanely good, addictive, well crafted and beautifully balanced. Every loss spurs you on to greater tactics and new approaches to battle and victory. Just wow. Years later still a gem.

One thing I'd say about this game is not to start on the Advanced expansion - the original base game on the easiest difficulty is the best place to start. This game is sometimes about winning, but far more often it's about a glorious death (well, unless you get 4 x Burst II lasers - then everything becomes irrelerent).

Nah, two Burst II lasers, Glaive beam, and a weapon pre-igniter.
FTL is £1.99 on GOG (if you prefer GOG).
