Matching the Game sale earlier in the month and with a pretty excellent deal on the controller and Link together.

The deal price is wrong.. its £11.39 when you include shipping (which is mandatory) so its a bit misleading to say it's £3.99

Shipping ruins the deal surely? Unless I'm missing something.
Steam Link with Steam Controller Bundle - £31.98 [Game]
Steam Controller - £27.99 [Game]

If you're just looking for the controller & love the Dark Souls series, I think the Dark Souls 3 + Controller deal for £33.98 + £7.40 is a better deal!
Cold, shipping is sky high as with all Steam hardware deals. The money valve (Steam) will be rolling in, further topped by by the xmas sale they could easily afford to offer free shipping across the board, which would be fairer seeing as there is no collection option so the shipping is a forced charge. They won't of course since they have become tight and greedy on the runaway success of Steam.

Much as Steam remains a good platform, it's sad that it's seem virtually no significant interface development since it's inception (well big picture aside) and there will probably never be a HL3, seems like Valve have all but retired in the development space. Guess money wise they don't have to develop anymore but nice if they would consider fans too...

To be honest I had the controller for a year now and apart from Flying simulator or Racing games I don't use it much. I tried on FPS games like COD and CS, however the lack of a right stick (inset you get a mouse pad) make it really hard to use. Works perfect with other games too like Ac and platforms. Hope this helps.
Do you need to use the controller with the steam link ? Or can you use m & k ?

You can use mouse and keyboard or a different controller (I use Xbox 360). Steam controller is not required
Expect lots of time wasting getting this set up right. The streaming is great but everything else around it is a total mess.
If they still stock this then wait for Game to put theirs on sale.

The steam store discounts are good but shipping kills it. Whereas Game, assuming you can find the stock, frequently match or beat the steam hardware prices and collection is an option while delivery is cheap or free.
Supposedly Link lags a lot (especially if you use internet to connect). I was going to buy it a few days ago until I saw the shipping (which ruins the deal for me). Someone just recommended me to buy a normal xbox or ps4 pad instead of steam one which looks shit.

Exactly, not just 7,40shiping but 11.39 UK
£11 is cheap enough to give it a go
Need to add shipping - It's actually three times the deal price...

Ordered the other day, arrived quickly. Doesn't work well on wifi even next to router so make sure you have ethernet ports where you intend to use it (I need a switch with more ports!).

Particularly given that their hardware is sent internationally (at least my last order was), suggesting they should give free shipping on a £3.99 item which would cost about that to post by Royal Mail in this country alone is a bit much. I agree on your latter points, but shipping *does* cost money.

Totally, I sell occasionally on eBay myself so I'm all too aware of shipping costs. Though shipping costs me money, to make things as clear and straightforward regarding the cost as possible, I offer free shipping on all my listings and just absorb the cost or factor it into my price. It's so competitive these days it's about the minimum you have to do to stand a chance of getting noticed.

Plus if there is one company that could VERY easily absorb those shipping costs it would be Valve/Steam, that they do not I find at best stingy at worse blatantly misleading as they never show the shipping charge in the store page, a big no no IMHO, only when you go to checkout, leading the casual browser to believe they are much cheaper than they actually are...

Do not forget the import tax too lol
That £7.40 delivery is obscene. I can post the same item fully tracked and signed for £2.98, and I'm not even a corporation to post in bulk.

This. The ethernet port can handle 100mbit/s bandwidth easily, the wifi? For some reason only 30mbit/s even when linked at a much higher rate. That's generally okay for "balanced" picture quality mode but pump it up and you'll drop frames.

There are still features being developed, but mostly small features for the enthusiasts. For instance, when the steam controller came along you could use steam to rebind the keys in any combination you want (e.g green button = E on keyboard). That's now been expanded to include PS4 controllers and xbox controllers (so green button on xbox 360 controller = E on keyboard) and now even further to work on the windows desktop.

I don't expect many people have noticed that, but that's fine. Gradual progress on small features is fine when rivals can't even get the basics stuff right, for instance I was recently downloading AC3 on uplay, it was downloading at less than 1% of internet connection speed for no reason. Google didn't have a solution, just others reporting the same issue with uplay. Steam can and does use 100% of my internet connection when downloading.
I got the Steam Link from GAME when it was £3.99 there, having already got a long HDMI cable to connect my TV to my PC I thought it would be cool to have it wireless instead, but I wasn't impressed using it entirely on WiFi (using 5Ghz band), the delay for both the image and controller input was almost unplayable.

I can't recommend this if you plan to use it only via WiFi but I'm sure it's great if your using an Ethernet cable, but for me personally that completely defeats the point of it, there's nowhere in my house where a TV is near an Ethernet cable and don't particularly want to invest in power-line adapters.

So sadly, back into its box it went and it'll probably stay there for a very long time, but hey at least it was only 4 quid.

IMO the shipping takes away this deal price although I want to try before I buy.
