A fugitive undercover cop framed for murder, hunted by cops and the mob, Max is a man with his back against the wall, fighting a battle he cannot hope to win. Max Payne is a relentless story-driven game about a man on the edge, fighting to clear his name while struggling to uncover the truth about his slain family amongst a myriad of plot-twists and twisted thugs in the gritty bowels of New York during the century's worst blizzard.

The groundbreaking original cinematic action-shooter, Max Payne introduced the concept of Bullet Time® in videogames. Through its stylish slow-motion gunplay combined with a dark and twisted story, Max Payne redefined the action-shooter genre.

She holds the keys to the questions that haunt him. But nothing is simple in the dark and tragic night of New York City. An army of underworld thugs stands between Max and the answers he seeks. His journey deeper into his own personal hell continues.

The first one is a nigthmare to run on modern hardware. You're going to need a complete fix for Ryzen systems and spend hours tinkering with various settings beyond that.

If anyone has a quicker option please let me know.

    I haven't tried 2 in recent times.

Max Payne 3 is on sale on Steam at the moment for ~£5 which is also a really good deal as even key sites had it for £10+ for Steam. (edited)

The Max Payne games are iconic. The storytelling is incredible, even by today's standards. It's one of the first games that made me wonder whether I was playing a game or part of a film.

    Sensational. (edited)

Make sure you check out Kenneth Yeung's Kung Fu mod. Got to love dodging bullets whilst wall-running and disarming the enemy with a kung fu kick!

Max Payne 3 is 5.99 and looks like it’ll run on steam deck. I may give this a go. Used to love the originals back in the day!

Remember when Max Payne 3 used to be on sale for sub-£3.50, frequently!?

Didn't like it when first played so sat in my steam library for years, but gave it another go just now and it's really good
