Monster Hunter: World for PC is an action role-playing game in which the player tracks and hunts various monsters and animals and mythical creatures using a variety of weapons. The game is played from the third person point of view.

The protagonist, the Hunter, starts off with limited supplies and a very basic weapon inventory. He or she must track animals or monsters and slay them, taking their treasure and body parts to build stronger weapons and better assets. This, in turn, means they can go after bigger and stronger prey: and so the game goes, bigger animals resulting in bigger weapons.

The loose premise of the game is to track the Elder Dragon to a new continent – this is the main story arc of the whole game. However, the side quests and learning how to craft and upgrade your weapons are highly important, so the overall story becomes mere background to all the adventures and hunts along the way.

Once the story mission is completed, the game unveils a second half to the story, one that is more challenging and therefore more fun for the player. Side quests wait in the menu to be completed when you so desire.

Players can, if they want to, simply explore the scenery, which is simply stunning on large PC screens. Locations from the hand-held version, namely Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste and Coral Highlands, have made the transition to the PC version, and the developers have made the most of the improved graphics capability.

Do be careful though, you might be attacked as you stand there admiring the exquisite sunset or the realistic jellyfish!

The game offers up to fourteen weapons, ranging from swords to hammers and everything in between. All of these weapons are upgradeable, and all will give a slightly different ambiance to the game play. Players must take the time to learn how to use the weapons as there is no useful tutorial to talk you through it in the heat of the moment.

New Details
The Hunter is accompanied by a companion assistant, a feline creature called Palico – a portmanteau of ‘pal’ and ‘calico’ (a type of cat) – who travels alongside, offering what advice and assistance he can.

Tracking animals is made easier with luminescent scoutflies, who track the signs of prey. The Hunter must gather more clues to the beast’s whereabouts and once he or she has enough information, the scoutflies place a marker on the map, enabling the Hunter to navigate to that spot to commence the hunt.

Once an animal, monster or mythical beast has been spotted, the Hunter will be provided with a basic pop-up, providing minimal information about the creature.

However, the more the Hunter interacts with the animal, examining it, a sort of in-game wiki lets you know which parts should be harvested and some interesting details about the creature.

The weapons are not only complicated to use, but they are also tricky to craft. However, once the process has been completed, the weapon becomes a strong asset, both useful and a sort of journal of the quests you undertook to create it.

The game map is immense, and has been divided into six zones for ease of navigation. However, there are no barriers or transition points going from one to the other, to move from one to the other is quite seamless.

Ways to Play
Explorer
Work your way methodically through map, gathering everything that you can and investing the time in mastering each new asset. There are some help menus, but the game has quite high expectations of player investment: and it is worth it to spend some time on each aspect.

Dasher
If you are easily bored by the methodical and studious, you can dash about the map, choosing destinations on a whim or following your instincts to see what lies around the next bend.

Solo
This one is self-evident, referring to playing by yourself, free to explore whenever and wherever it suits you.

Multiplayer
Team up with your buddies or make friends from strangers as up to four players can team up via online servers to explore the world and capture beasts.

Endgame
As mentioned elsewhere, the loose story arc is to catch up to the Elder Dragon. But it is hard to say that this is the endgame – it seems very much to be just the beginning of a long, satisfying quest to explore the entire map!

Monster Hunter: World for PC is available for purchase on Instant Gaming for a fraction of its retail price. You will receive an official key and be able to play the game in seconds. Play smart. Pay less.

Getting there
Perfect, was just thinking of getting this. Thanks OP
Do you need friends to play this? (unfortunately I don't have any that are into this sort of game). I'm wondering wherher to get it but don't want to if its designed around coop play. Or is is it easy to team up with randoms?

You can play solo which I do most of the time, but if you want to farm items quickly then you can join random group.

If you have an Xbox this is included with a Game Pass …If you have an Xbox this is included with a Game Pass subscription:https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/games/monster-hunter-worldThe game itself was liked by Super Bunnyhop, and GIant Bomb (their #9 best game in 2018).

To add to this, given a good chunk of the Xbox games are making their way to pc, you might find at some point in the future this gets added to the pc portion of the pass.

If you're going to review a game, at least try to expand on your thoughts. "Running around mouse bashing" does not really cut it.

Hmm OK then.

And all FPS's are just running around clicking on people's heads. RPG's are just picking words off menu's, strategy games are just clicking on little men. Every game type sounds boring when you just boil it down trying to be dismissive. You don't like it, thats fair enough. But there is far more to it than you imply.

Your opinion is basically worthless and comes across borderline trolling when you don't bother to actually explain any of it.

PS - Heat for a great game.
