Had this on my PS2 and I enjoyed it initially before it got repetitive. It's old school shoot and then keep shooting until the bad guy dies type of game.

I assume you mean PS3. It certainly isn't a typical shooter as you are suggesting. The mechanics of the game separate it from all other shooters. I can guarantee you that you have alot to discover from the mechanics of the game. Just watching some of the stuff that is possible in the game is mindblowing.

One of the reasons this game can get repetitive is if you play it as a typical shooter. That option is available, but you'll notice you get lower ranks at the end of the mission.
