Steam now do Sniper Elite as a download for £9, I think - this is a great game, much better online than single player, but very underrated. Worth a go if you like games with a bit more thinking in them than the usual shoot 'em up.

Heat added, unfortunately I have most of these games already, but HL2+Ep1+Ep2+HL2DM for £6.45 is insanely good value!

I would guess that there are not many people who are interested in these games without them ... but the prices are good

Been waiting for one of these discounts to get Episode 2. Cheers!

HL...was it really 1998??!!! wow, i remember getting that. i'm old.

oh crap, if you don't already have these games then get them now! Amazing price for literally hundreds of hours of entertainment

Awesome price, shame I got most of them now.

Holy cocksicle. What a brilliant deal.

How does steam work,do you download the games and burn them onto discs?Im considering getting these but not sure if i want to spend a long time downloading

brilliant deal, is there anyone left who doesn't own them all?

You download the Steam client program for your PC(s). Then, you buy the games you want to play through Steam and they download to your computer. Once they've finished downloading you can start playing them straight away, no discs involved. The games aren't tied to that one computer either; any time you're on another computer you can login to steam and redownload your games onto that computer and play them as if you were at home (provided you aren't logged in at home at the same time).

There are some downsides to Steam, namely the DRM which makes selling or trading your games impossible but Steam is generally regarded as having one of the more unobtrusive DRM systems around as it actually helps the user by letting them download their games anywhere and you don't have to mess around with CD's.

Hope this helps.

When I was at uni I played Counter Strike 1.5 on the LAN - what is the latest and greatest version nowadays?

Never mind this crap Valve.

Just give us Half Life 2 Episode 3 already. Its only been 2 years now.

Counter Strike Source is the latest CS release. It's not included in any of the details except the Valve Complete Pack (which is, amazing value for money imho).

Yeah, got the orange box when it was highlighted here last time, but tempted to get the Half Life for when I eventually get through 2

Maybe they are selling HL2 to get people hooked so that when EP3 comes out lots of people will spend £30+ on it, I know I will, even though I only spent £12 on the orange box.

1.6 is still being played, but Counter Strike: Source is still being updated.

I dont have Episode 2. Ive played all the others though and given how short episode 1 was I just didn't want to pay the money for ep2.

For digital distribution in general it's identical to disk based-games except that the installer is launched from a downloaded file (or a program after it's downloaded a file) rather than a disk. Most of them you can burn to disk if you want a backup but that's not required to play the game.

Steam is one of the worse services as it has some extra annoyances like making itself run in the background without asking and it requires you to run it to play the game (which it does automatically) but can't shut itself down afterwards. However, HL2 and newer games from valve require you to use steam even if you get the disk version so the only difference buying from steam makes in this case is that you'll be waiting for the gigabytes of games to download rather than be delivered. Oh and do make sure that your broadband package allows you to download the large amount of data that are these games, steam doesn't give sizes (yet another annoyance) but I would guess the Half Life pack was 3GB+ and the Complete pack 6GB+

No garys mod ? :?

Complete pack will be ALOT more than 6GB rofl.

TF2 alone according to steam on my computer is approx 8GB.

Nah they're too busy making other games. Namely Left for Dead 2.. and I won't be surprised if they release a third one before episode 3.

Anyways good deal, might repuchase HL1 just for old kicks

Over now.

Not bad, though I got my Half Life from g2play instead of this as it came with more games.
